Why does Jerry love Romo so much?

What is it you want from Jerry not even two weeks since the Super Bowl.

You want Jerry to come out and say, I'm getting rid of that bum as soon as I get the chance!

Unless you get on the bad side of Jerry he's not gonna bury you. Hell he never actually fired Bruce Coslet! He just reassigned in the organization.

I really don't understand why this is so hard to understand.

Much like a dog becomes part of your family after several years, Tony has grown up before Jerry's eyes. He's gone from a wide-eyed undrafted free agent kid to a husband and father and part of the fabric of Dallas, much like Roger and Troy. He's also been around Jerry's extended family and taken part in their lives. How many countless kid's birthday parties and graduations and weddings of their extended family have Jerry and Romo been a part of people never knew about.

Also, Romo's parents did such a great job of raising a quality person that having him be the face of the franchise has been an added asset for Jerry.

The on-field stuff is pretty obvious. Romo essentially bought Jerry time for age to reel in his hubris and allow him to let people do their jobs. It's a cruel irony that Romo was able to benefit from this towards the end of his career.

These relationships have happened before. Magic with Jerry Buss, Elway with Pat Bowlen and obviously Brady with Robert Kraft.

Well, what the other poster said is pretty much true thou. Romo, as of today, is the best QB on the roster and it's not really even close to be honest. The problem is that a stiff wind might break him, at this point in his career. That's a problem and that's why Dak is the starter but from the point of view of who is the best QB on the team, that's Tony IMO and I don't really think it's much of an argument. That's no knock on Dak. That's just the truth of it to me.

Maybe it's as simple as Tony Romo just being an exceptional human being. I mean, statistically, he is one of the all time best QBs in NFL History. He is a guy from nowhere who beat all the odds. He's a little bit of a gambler on the field. He goes for the gold and doesn't really play it safe. You can't convince him that it can not be done and that he can't be the one who does it. Does that sound like anybody to you?

Even though all of that is true, lets go back to the human side of this whole thing. As great of a player as Tony has been for us, he may well be an even better human being. I've said this many times, Tony Romo is one of the very best people I've ever seen in sports. He is a really, really good person and that's very rare in big time sports athletes. People like to be around people who are genuinely good. Tony is that guy.

Maybe it's as simple as Jerry admiring Tony for more then just the player. Maybe Jerry just likes him and respects him. I would not be surprised if that is all there is to it.

I agree with you and that's why the fan base needs to move on like the Cowboys are.

We all know Jerry is very loyal to his players, but he is also a businessman that has moved on from Cowboy greats in the past, such as, Troy, Emmitt, Ware etc.

Why do you suppose he loves Tony so much?

Chad Hutchinson, Drew Henson, Quincy Carter, Clint Stoerner, Anthony Wright, Ryan Leaf...

Is it a ploy to drive the price up, is it because Tony has been a lightning rod the last 10 years and has taken the pressure of Jerry as the team's scapegoat, or is there a true relationship there? Any opinions?

Jerry is loyal to Romo because he kept the Cowboys relevant, competitive and top revenue team while Jerry was at the height of his meddling battling the media and fans over continuing to be GM without more team success.

Romo basically allowed Jerry to continue his ways. Otherwise the Cowboys might have hit rock bottom and forced Jerry's hand to step down as GM.

That's basically it,,, that and the fact that Jerry felt guilty for wasting most of Romo's career.

Jerry loves Romo because he was a miracle in Jerry's words, who came along when the team was in the middle of a QB crisis that had the Cowboys going nowhere. Jerry was in need of a new stadium and it's hard to gain support for a new stadium with a bad team. Romo helped turn the Cowboys around after 6 mostly miserable seasons that saw at least 7 starting QBs. Romo helped get Jerry his new stadium.

Could it be Romo made the team watchable for 10 years amongst some mediocre rosters, and Jerry truckloads of money during that time.
