Why does Jerry love Romo so much?

Jerry loves Romo because he was a miracle in Jerry's words, who came along when the team was in the middle of a QB crisis that had the Cowboys going nowhere. Jerry was in need of a new stadium and it's hard to gain support for a new stadium with a bad team. Romo helped turn the Cowboys around after 6 mostly miserable seasons that saw at least 7 starting QBs. Romo helped get Jerry his new stadium.
That, or Romo has seen what goes on in the party bus.

Well, what the other poster said is pretty much true thou. Romo, as of today, is the best QB on the roster and it's not really even close to be honest. The problem is that a stiff wind might break him, at this point in his career. That's a problem and that's why Dak is the starter but from the point of view of who is the best QB on the team, that's Tony IMO and I don't really think it's much of an argument. That's no knock on Dak. That's just the truth of it to me.

We all know Jerry is very loyal to his players, but he is also a businessman that has moved on from Cowboy greats in the past, such as, Troy, Emmitt, Ware etc. Why do you suppose he loves Tony so much? Is it a ploy to drive the price up, is it because Tony has been a lightning rod the last 10 years and has taken the pressure of Jerry as the team's scapegoat, or is there a true relationship there? Any opinions?
Because he knows that Romo made the Cowboys interesting again and made him a ton of money.

At this point I'd just keep Tony rather then just give him away for nothing, the salary cap is fine, there's no Deion sanders free agent out there to bring in, he was factored in to the cap anyway. Just keep him in case of a sophomore slump/one year wonder/injury to Dak. There's no FA or current players that can't be signed without restructuring to get under the cap

Some people seem to forget what it was like from 2000-2006.

The corpses of Cunningham, Testaverde, Leaf, and Bledsoe.

Henson, Hutchinson, Carter, Wright, and Stoerner.

Then came Romo and you wonder why Jones is fond of him?

I have not forgotten, believe me, but business is business. Of course, it's his business.........so, I guess he can do whatever the hell he wants.

I'm surprised no one has picked up on this:

Jerry's grandson happens to be a fine quarterback. John Stephen Jones led Highland Park to a championship.

Who is the one quarterback that has led his favorite team throughout John Stephen's childhood? Who is a casual mentor of the teen QB? When he was twelve or fourteen years old...who do you think John Stephen wanted to be when he grew up?

Romo is undoubtedly unusually close to Jerry and Stephen as the relationship is deeper than the Cowboys...and involves a beloved family member.

Simple. He's the best QB on the roster.

What has Jerry done with Romo that has "allowed his personal affinity for him supersede smart business sense?"

Way to misinterpret his comment. He didn't say Romo; he said Jerry has allowed his personal affinity ... with other players.

He did this with Deion, Aikman, Roy Williams (the receiver) and Joey Galloway - just to name a few. He should have let Deion and Aikman go way before they did, but he loved those players even when others saw they were about done as elite players. He allowed his personal affinity to get a big-time wide receiver to supersede his smarter business sense by trading for Williams and Galloway instead of building through the draft.

One of the endearing qualities of Jones as an owner is that he cares for his players; one of his worst qualities as a business man is that he cares for his players.

He was conflating the Romo situation to past Jerry situations saying "this is nothing new."

In fact I think a lot of how these Cowboys have operated the last 6 years is very something new.

The old Jerry inserts Romo back into the lineup mid season (and possibly goes to the Super Bowl.... But that's a tale for another day).

:)

Romo was a good QB and decent human being. With that said, he never led this organization to any amazing feats. Heck he couldn't match Danny White's NFCCG appearances. Obviously not all his fault.

is there a true relationship there?....... I am sure there is, tony is RKG , and has made the cowboys a interesting
team for 10 years, he put people in the seats and made the team relevant.
He was the star QB that played great at times, and without him they were awful.

Romo carried the team and saved Jerry from being the owner of a bottom feeder for 6 or 7 years. And Romo is a likable guy.

Good and decent? That's really all you see. That's as awkward and understated as Montana's answer to who's the greatest QB ever after watching the Brady in the Super Bowl.
