Why Does This Defense Suck?

As bad as what the offense is this defense just slays me.

I can accept some of Watkins problems...

But Canty?

Come'on! We were told how "great" this guy looked coming into the season and instead of playing like he's 6'7, 300lbs he's playing like he's 5'3, 150lbs. And what is it with the little show he puts on after making one tackle?

And our "Pro-Bowl" safety? He couldn't cover Bledsoe. Not too mention he looked scared to death tackling Jacobs.

Forget putting Ferguson into the "Pro-Bowl" too.

Yeah, I think there is a million thread about the Offensive Line and the Offense, but the Defense was just terrible.

I still dont understand why they like to blitz Anthony Henry over the faster Terence Newman. Henry is a good tackler, but Newman is quicker.

Yeah, and there is Mr. Roy Williams. I think I was extremely annoyed when he and Watkins were beat (where he ran into the Ref) and the ref is on the ground and Williams pointing at him like he is going to get an interference call on or something because of the Ref.

He also got beat by Jeremy Shockey for a Touchdown. Now we didnt get any pressure that series, but if you look at that play again, Shockey just shook him out of his pants.

But they did get a key stop but Romo turned the ball over and they were able to put the game away off of that.

The defense is big and physical. They often seem to physically beat up the competition. But they just seem to be a half-step too slow.

Overall, they look ponderous.

I don't know what it is.... Maybe they need a little more quickness at LB? Or maybe this is how an old school physical 3-4 is supposed to look.

roy was beat by shockey but i would bet most ss in the league can't cover shockey on that play. the deep ball was not roys man.i think alot of the probelms with defense come from the offense. hard to go out there fired up when you see your qb hit on 3 step drops and have this many turn overs.the giants are also a better team than sonme give credit for. i fully expected them to score 3 td's with their offense, but when you give them short fields it gets much easier. they are good enough to march the field 2 or 3 times a game.

Im still not sold on the fact that this defense played horribly last night.

7 pts on the roy hitting the ref
7 on a 13 yard drive
7 by the defense
2 on a safety

36-23 = 13

-the dline had some decent pressure
-forced 2 turnovers
-did struggle against the run but made up for it by being excellent against the pass

idk what it is but this defense really confuses me with their inability to make plays at crucial times though

I thought the worse part of the defense was poor tackling through out the game. I was very disappointed in this group because I feel they can play much better than what they showed last night

Exactly.


And Akin to that list too. His best games are merely "average". IMO he was horrid last night.

Well at this point I'm for ****-canning virtually the whole staff.

Its really hard to gauge the performance of the defense when the offense is turning the ball over constantly. The defense has had some issues and definately isnt a dominant force but they have played well enough for Dallas to win.

Bingo. I agree that guys like Canty were overrated, but there *is* talent on this D. We just need new blood to coordinate and call it.

And I have ZERO doubt that we'll get that next year.

Watch the Giant drive right before half-time. They didn't come away with any points but they controlled the ball so we didn't have another chance to score... Remember 3rd down and 16? Tiki running for it? Our defense comes up "small" more often than not.

See I was thinking to myself, where can this team possibly improve on Defense. I guess you can never have enough depth and the obvious position is Free Safety and maybe a young NT.

Besides that, where do you go from there?

I too think it is the scheme.

On that long bomb to Plex in the 1st Quarter, they were in Zone Coverage and as soon as Henry released Plex to the next Zone, Eli just chunked it.

Sorry, but Terence Newman and Henry should have been locked up on Plex the entire Game.

Besides safety, I dont think you can improve much on this team defensively.

And I still dont understand why they prefer to blitz Anthony Henry over Newman or at least do it equally.

The play where Newman gave up really his only huge play of the night, they Blitzed Henry.

Watching this defense is like watching someone getting a Viper to drive 25 mph to the store.

Someone on the coaching staff needs to lean over and stomp on the pedal.

Their Pass Rush is anemic. They can't pressure the QB besides and occasional breakout by Ware or Ellis. They can't cover the deep pass. We Score enough to win every week, but the so called great Defense has been very underwhelming.

We have absolutely no imagination as far as a gameplan on defense. We don't stunt at all. We don't overload one side. That said, the Giants were playing with a very short field most of the night. That said, fotball is a game of emotion. If we can play more emotional on offense, it may rub off on the defense.
