I wonder what would happen if we had a freaking free safety.

Garrrrrr......

nothing...how many good players do you need to have a good defense?

the problem isnt a single player or two...its whats being asked of them to do on the field scheme wise

They were in the 2nd half. Zero catches.

I thought Watkins had good coverage on the TD -- it was just a great pass.

It was a great pass.

Don't give me any crap about Zimmer today. He doesn't script plays where these idiots run directly at blockers and don't have the talent to get off those blocks.

Watkins is directly responsible for 28 points. Don't sell me that a real FS wouldn't make a difference.

Michael, don't forget to spread some distaste towards #41. Luckily, Plaxico pulled a Roy and misplayed the ball in the endzone on that INT or else that'd be 7 more.

The front seven played terrible and not being able to stop Tiki on multiple 3rd and longs was disheartening.

You do realize that there was offensive PI on that play don't you?????

We define great coverage as having no idea where the hell the ball is? OK. I guess he had great coverage then.

And the pass that beat Newman was even better.

Now that was a great pass. No hang on it, it dropped right in Plax's basket. I'm not even sure he saw it until it hit him in the hands.

Im still not sold on the fact that this defense played horribly last night.

7 pts on the roy hitting the ref
7 on a 13 yard drive
7 by the defense
2 on a safety

36-23 = 13

-the dline had some decent pressure
-forced 2 turnovers
-did struggle against the run but made up for it by being excellent against the pass

idk what it is but this defense really confuses me with their inability to make plays at crucial times though

Good post.

The fact is that folks are expecting this D to come out and win games. That's not realistic. Especially against what is one of the best offenses in the league. Tiki is making people look flat out stupid this year. Manning is having a great year and Jacobs has become exactly what a tired defense hates to see.

There were crucial plays the D couldn't make -- but when it falls on the D again and again to do it all, you'll get that.

Poor coaching...during the week and during the games...period.

Either our CB's are overrated and our safeties (both) can't cover anyone, or they are being poorly coached and a poor game plan is in place that puts them in suspect situations.

It's one or the other.

The poor tackling and failure to stop the 3rd and longs (mostly runs bounced outside I think) looked the worst to me last night. Our scheme did look bad. We looked out coached.

As bad as what the offense is this defense just slays me.

I can accept some of Watkins problems...

But Canty?

Come'on! We were told how "great" this guy looked coming into the season and instead of playing like he's 6'7, 300lbs he's playing like he's 5'3, 150lbs. And what is it with the little show he puts on after making one tackle?

And our "Pro-Bowl" safety? He couldn't cover Bledsoe. Not too mention he looked scared to death tackling Jacobs.

Forget putting Ferguson into the "Pro-Bowl" too.

They aren't a dominating defense like I had hoped, but they are the least of the problems. They offense was absolutely disgusting in the first half and the defense, in spite of giving up to big plays held the Giants to 12 points. I still think Manning fumbled, but nobody actually knows the rule.

When the offense finally scored the defense immediately forces a turnover providing the offense with a golden opportunity and they screwed it up. Think of how poor the offense is. If James and Watkins don't drop two possible interceptions we may win the game. Dominating defenses make those plays. They don't dominate, but they are consistently putting the offense in a position to score, but that's for another thread. The defense is all this team has going for it right now.

I said good. Me, I don't expect an FS in what ends up as one on one coverage to be able to cover Burress at all. It was a 2 man coverage -- Watkins had his part - Roy ran into the official.

Well at this point I'm for ****-canning virtually the whole staff.

AMEN brother...I pray Parcells retires and JJ fires the rest of them and someone younger and innovative comes in with an entirely new staff.

our D needs a boost and it's getting deflated by big plays and our O. lots of youth on D vs a veteran O.

the "long chuck it up" pass is haunting them.. of course our inept in coverage SS contributed with help from an equally inept Zebra.

they're playing scared... almost from viewpoint "lets stop them now 'cause Drew will have a turnover next drive"

our D didn't really play THAT bad in all our losses. they certainly aren't playing up to expectations but eliminate the horrendous QB play and we're 5-1 and if you really want to be a hater 4-2.

Pretty hard for your defense to win games for you when your offense turns the ball over twice in your end of the field , and twice in the red zone . Parcells had preached no turnovers and throwing the ball away all week to his players , the media , and anybody else who would listen . Turnovers lost this game , not the Dallas defense .
