Why doesnt Dez do Punt Returns?

Regardless of whether he is still capable of returning punts I don't think this is a good time to make the change.

So all of a sudden Dez is a bad player? He's slow? He fumbles "all the time"? It's like the majority of the posts in this thread have been watching the Cowboys for like a season and a half. And they only watch the game highlights.

Dez returning punts has been a good thing in the past and it would be a good thing in the present.

Hopefully, he gets a couple shots when we have the other team pinned deep.

Hello, you must be new around here to not realize the board is full of drama queens and chicken littles

If you see Dez go back for a punt return in the playoffs it's because we're desperate for a spark which is a bad sign.

Dez isn't a bad player, but he has shown himself to be inconsistent, and emotional lately. It's like a black cloud has been following him around.

Most punt returns end up being fair catches. I suppose Dez can signal for a fair catch as good as the rest of them.

I love the thought of yeah we should have Dez return kicks. When we have them pinned deep.

If he's the best returner you have why only have him back there when we already have good field position? Why not use your best return man to also flip field position?

He'd be my full time punt returner in the playoffs. We have to take our best swing at this and he is definitely our best option to return kicks.

Both reasons have been stated. It was the fumbles that got Garrett to take him off punt duty, but he also tries to do too much and gets his legs tangled way to often.

You get hit harder in a punt return than any other play in football. It's a bigger risk to have your stars return kicks.
Have any of you guys seen lucky whitehead or cole beasley (small players) get drilled on a punt return this year? Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like you're making up stuff.

This thread is embarrassing.

Not because either want Dez returning punts but because a player every team in the NFL would welcome our "fans" denigrate.

The reason you don't is that Dez isn't a player who goes down to first contact a lot. He fights and twists to try and get away/yardage. On punt returns you have bottom roster guys come flying down with their hair on fire looking to light someone up. The Giants do it with OBJ because their offense sucks. I honestly don't know why the Steelers do it, other then Brown is good at it. I think you have to know your player and justify the risk/reward to see if its worthwhile for your team to do it. Dez could be really good back there, but is it worth losing his abilities as a WR if he gets his leg torqued by a scrub on a punt return?

Inconsistent with a rookie qb who doesn't like to really force the ball to a player who is open 'even when covered' and in an offense that doesn't have the most imaginative minds in the game. You don't say?

Yet the OP showed that all those other teams, including playoff teams, use their stars to return punts.

lol I'm hard on Dez but some of these replies are ridiculous. Glorified possession wr smh.

It's pure physics. The speed times mass equals force. You get more speed running all the way down the field than you do on any other play. Anyone remember the hit on Spoles that took him out for 2-3 games?

He's been too valuable on offense to risk him to injury on punt returns. With the injuries he's had the past two seasons it's less likely he'll ever be used him on punt returns again unless we're behind and desperate in the playoffs.
