Why doesnt Dez do Punt Returns?

You get hit harder in a punt return than any other play in football. It's a bigger risk to have your stars return kicks.

You get hit harder on KO returns which is why the league is trying to limit returns. A punt returner has a better chance to avoid a big hit because they can call a fair catch and they don't have as many defenders coming after them from as long a distance as KO returners. On KO returns defenders are starting their sprint from the 35 yard line which makes the collisions far worse. On punt returns players have to stay and block so a returner isn't having to elude as many defenders.

So all of a sudden Dez is a bad player? He's slow? He fumbles "all the time"? It's like the majority of the posts in this thread have been watching the Cowboys for like a season and a half. And they only watch the game highlights.

Dez returning punts has been a good thing in the past and it would be a good thing in the present.

Hopefully, he gets a couple shots when we have the other team pinned deep.

Look at the sources. Remember what they've been saying about this team all along. And then disregard the opinions.

Though I do think we ought to be using Dez as a returner in some of our return packages. I might not want him fielding all of them, but he's such a weapon in space, it'd be dumb not to use him when the likelihood of a chance to actually return it is high. I don't really want him puzzling out whether to catch it or leave it on a borderline kick just inside the 10.

It's pure physics. The speed times mass equals force. You get more speed running all the way down the field than you do on any other play. Anyone remember the hit on Spoles that took him out for 2-3 games?
The illegal hit?

Inconsistent with a rookie qb who doesn't like to really force the ball to a player who is open 'even when covered' and in an offense that doesn't have the most imaginative minds in the game. You don't say?

Sure, maybe you're right. The reasoning doesn't really matter, but no one here thinks Dez is the same player that he use to be. He's probably lost a lot of confidence and it could very well be for those exact reasons you mentioned. I'll reiterate that he is an emotional player. Sometimes that's good, sometimes that's not good. I just would feel uneasy about trotting him out on punt returns for the first time all year in the playoffs. He's liable to try and make something out of nothing and that isn't what this team is about. I'll take consistency over flash, because that is exactly what has gotten us this far.

I remember when a lot of people said Randy Moss sucked in Oakland.

The illegal hit?

Yep, the illegal hit. But the guy only got a 15 yard penalty. Why not take the 15 yards to take Dez out of the game. That is why it's risky. I'm not saying he IS GOING to get hurt. Just that it is more likely that a normal play.

Antonio Brown, ODB, Ginn, Edleman, sproles, austin are all regular punt returners, theres no reason to not let Dez attempt one. Its been years since we have had a TD returning a punt or kick

I don't see Ginn, Sproles or Austin as adequate examples of the point you are trying to make. Those guys are all primarily return specialists. That is what they do first and foremost. If teams get anything from them in the passing or running game it is only secondary to what they bring to the return game.

Brown(15 punt returns, 1 kick return), Becham(10 punt returns) and Edleman(14 punt returns, 3 kick returns) are good examples of using starters as part-time returners. As others have mentioned Dez will probably be a part-time returner during the playoffs. Getting injured early in the season has prevented him from being put in those positions during the regular season.

Antonioni Brown is a difference maker... a "playmaker".

I wish I could find the espn video where he laughed at Dez being a great receiver.

This is the 2nd time I've seen a CZ poster reference this with absolutely no source. Surely if this happened we could easily pull up a video, you sure you not mistaking this for the infamous Julio/Roddy White clip?

No bad blood at all between those 2

Because our franchise WR could get hurt?
Because he'd fumble half of them?

Someone could easily make a dirty tackle or go for the legs in a punt return, and make it look like a legitimate unintentional tackle , and with the reputation dallas has alot of players feel sour towards our star players..if you see where I'm going with this I don't feel like further explaining because I'm in via cell phone
