Why draft a RB?

I think we can all say that we are happy with Marion Barber as our primary running back in a two running back system.

That said since we probably won't re-sign Julius Jones, I would rather trade a 3rd round draft pick to pick up Laurence Maroney from New England, and reunite that brutal Minnesota backfield.

I'd be fine with that........I'm just fearful that's not a trade NE would make.....Personally, I'd be fine with signing a solid vet to be the primary backup (they are not that hard to find IMO) and drafting a RB to replace Thompson as the #3......preferably somone with good receiving skills.

Why do that when we can get Tomlinson for a second? :laugh2:

I'd rather pay less for a younger back.

New England is probably going to be looking for a more productive running back this year... I wouldn't be surprised if he was on the trade block.

so if New England gets rid of him in the search for a productive back, we want him because...?

I assume we'd want him to backup/platoon w/ Barber rather than carry the load like NE expected him to do this year. That said, I don't think we could get him for a 3rd.......

They are 10th in the league in rushing offense and Maroney is averaging 4.8 per carry. There are only 10 RB's with a higher average per carry.

if New England wants a productive running game, why not platoon somebody w/ him?

I haven't watched Maroney a ton, but I get the feeling he does a lot of the same things as MBIII. We need a speed back to compliment him, not another grinder.

I would be fine with that backfield, well, we all would be... for years...

and exactly why is new england trading maroney for a 3rd rounder???????

Many speculate that Bellichick isn't happy overall with Maroney and will take McFadden with the SF pick...

If this is the case, I hope McFadden is a bust, although I highly doubt it...

I think the original thread implied NE was not happy w/ Maroney and would prefer to go in another direction........

Next question?

NE is currently picking 8th with the SF pick, which won't get it done for McFadden.

And I don't buy the not being happy with Maroney stuff, but if that were the case they should do better than a 3rd for him.

You are aware that they played college football together, complementing each other to one of the best running games in the country? That Barber was the bruiser while Maroney provided the wiggle? If you're looking for someone to complement Barber, what guy better than someone that already has.

That being said, I don't think it'll happen.

Steve Slaton is the home run threat that might be a nice backup to Barbarian.

Ray Rice reminds me of Emmitt more. McFad is not realistic.

I've read those comparisons before. It will be interesting to see what direction we go.

I agree, I'm really liking Chris Johnson he "wowed" me in his bowl game. It would be nice to have our Fred Taylor-Maurice Jones-Drew combo here.

We'll never be like the Jags as long as Garret is OC.
