Why draft a RB?

Maroney is the 22nd ranked rusher in the nfl in terms of total yardage. Last year he was 31st.

Not saying I want him as a starter. The point as I and many others pointed out is that he would make a nice compliment to Barber. I'd probably even give up a 2nd round draft pick for him. that said, thats pretty high for a running back going into his 3rd year of a 5 year contract, who has had injury concerns, and hasn't lived up to his 1st round caliber.

I agree, I'm really liking Chris Johnson he "wowed" me in his bowl game. It would be nice to have our Fred Taylor-Maurice Jones-Drew combo here.

Chris Johnson is a blur. With moves. Makes a mockery of pursuit angles. He'd be a great guy to have behind MBIII.

We need a home run hitter with vision. JJ has some speed, some wiggle, but no power and IMO very poor vision. Not sure where the vision went, as he sure seemed to have it as a rookie. Some may think he will do better elsewhere, but I don't see it unless it is at Denver whose one cut system of running might work for JJ with his skills. Also, maybe its me, but he seems to have less power then he has had in the past. The first tackler almost always takes him down. JMO.

I haven't watched Maroney a ton, but I get the feeling he does a lot of the same things as MBIII. We need a speed back to compliment him, not another grinder.

I agree that I'd rather have a faster back to pair with Barber, but Maroney for a 3rd would be a steal. But NE would be stupid to do that. I can see them drafting a good RB with good recieving skills later in the draft (Steve Slaton?) to team with Maroney.

I think we can all say that we are happy with Marion Barber as our primary running back in a two running back system.

That said since we probably won't re-sign Julius Jones, I would rather trade a 3rd round draft pick to pick up Laurence Maroney from New England, and reunite that brutal Minnesota backfield.

Get your mind right:bang2:

Why draft a RB? Just sign Turner from SD. They aren't going to tag him, it would cost too much just to keep him as LT's backup. He would be the homerun threat that JJ isn't. And we could still have Barber as the bruiser, a better lightning and thunder combination.

Gotta figure BP, now in the Phins camp will look at the draft in as much way to strengthen Miami, but also to look at the angle that will not let the Pats get substantially better if he can swing it.......

Gotta figure trade down, heck even 2X before Pats pik #8 if he can, if he can take away what he percieves are players Pats Need or Want.......its the way BP thinks.........

At this stage BP should be more concerned with competing with the Jets . . . .

That said, I'd bet money that BP tries to trade down and accumulate more picks.

But there does not seem to be a QB worthy of number 1 overall, and the best player appears to be DMac. I just don't see BP wanting to use the number 1 overall pick on a RB. And I'm not sure who else can afford to and wants to engineer a trade for DMac for the number 1 overall pick.

Sure, JJ probably would love to draft DMac, but I'm not sure if he can realistically engineer the trade without giving up way too much.

I assume we'd want him to backup/platoon w/ Barber rather than carry the load like NE expected him to do this year. That said, I don't think we could get him for a 3rd.......

NE didn't expect him to carry the load this season - he split time all season long with Sammy Morris until he got injured. Maroney was never looked at this year to carry the full load for NE or anything close to it.

I have my doubts that either Julius Jones or Tyson Thompson will be back. I think Alonzo Coleman (kid from Hampton on the PS) has a chance to be the 3rd RB next year. Barber will almost certainly be the guy. I think they will use a 4th round pick to get him a backup who will play a little less than Julius does now. But make no mistake about it, Barber will start next year IMO.

I love the concept of "carrying the load" for the Patriots. At one point they didn't even bring in a running back for the entire first half. It's like being the go to wideout for Nebraska in the mid-80s.

I agree about JJ and Thompson. I look for both to be elsewhere next year.

What is Tyson doing for the team now? Anything?

Heck, I'd just about rather bring Coleman up from the PS and let him be third right now... and just let Thompson go.

Mauroney is going to want a lot of money, and I don't think Jerrah is going to be willing to shell it out for a back up. One UFA I wouldn't mind having Justin Fargas. He's a solid back up who probably would go to the Boys: 1) because they are winning and Oak isn't, and 2) isn't expecting to be a longterm starting RB. Mauroney would expect to start. Turner (San Diego) would expect to start.

The only thing that concerns me is the Boys may have waited too long to evaluate whether or not MBIII can carry the ball 20-25 times a game week in and week out. We've gotten a snapshot of it and I'm excited about the potential, but I would've rather seen him do it several games in a row. I hope we get that chance in the playoffs.

We probably should look to get 2 new RBs this off-season via the Draft and FA.

Obviously, MBIII stays, but I think both TT and JJ are done.

I wouldn't want to depend on the draft for 2 rookie RBs, esp. if MBIII was dinged up, for example. I'd look to get 1 veteran back-up and 1 rookie draft pick.

Fargas could probably serve as either a number 2 or change of pace 3 down back, depending who we pick up in the Draft.

These are my thoughts also, however, Dallas has to think long term regarding salary cap implications.

and exactly why is new england trading maroney for a 3rd rounder???????

No doubt. NE gave a first rounder for him a couple years ago. And so far he has been very good when given the chance, but all of a sudden Belicheat wants to trade him for a 3rd rounder?

C'mon man.

HAHAHAHAHHAH........HAHAHAHAHAH

Wow man they didn't get to be 16-0 by being stupid. They would take no less than a second for him and most likey would ask for two seconds or a second and a third.

That said i would pay a 2nd and 3rd....
