Why Escobar?... Why a TE?

I was working tonight and only briefly was able to check my phone to get updates, this pick still doesn't make much sense to me.

We have Witten, Phillips and Hanna. A HoFer who has plenty of juice left and two players who have flashed potential so why did we get a projected 3rd round TE in the mid 2nd? Overreaching for a need position when the player is the top at their position (Frederick) makes a ton of sense, reaching for a non need position doesn't.

Can anyone elaborate on the reasoning?

We don't have Phillips. And he was BPA, not a "reach."
Wow. Didn't know we lost Phillips, haven't followed that closely this offseason due to rising real life commitments.

I was going by this -
47. Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State: D Grade
Jerruh sure loves his third-round prospects. Gavin Escobar belonged in the third frame. Even worse, he doesn't fill a need. The Cowboys have so many defensive issues, especially considering that they're moving into a new 4-3, that it's a big head-scratcher that they haven't addressed their stop unit yet.

Witten is getting old and we needed to draft his replacement. How many people on this board have wined and cried about JJ being short sighted and not drafting replacements. When we do, the same people whine and moan talking about its not a need.

No idea where that is from, but 49ers took Vance immediately after we took Escobar. We actually caused a bit of a TE run.

Just join the Blame Jerry Club.

Blame everything on Jerry, even things that happen in your regular life.

Because Fasano and Bennett weren't avail...:banghead:

Looks like a Garrett move to a two TE Set, best pass catching hands in the entire Draft and hopefully prolongs Wittens career.

Smart Player. Comes in head and shoulders above Fasano, Bennett and Phillips.

They want to be able to run a base 12 if they want.

Isn't Hanna his replacment? And as stated, we had more pressing needs. This was the worst pick we made by FAR. It's funny, more people had an issue it seems with Frederick than this guy who probably won't even see the field.

No, Hanna is insanely overrated by this board. He was a 6th round pick, for crying out loud. And if you don't think Escobar will "see the field," you're out of your mind.

Ratliff and Hatcher are getting old too, but obviously we aren't looking for their replacements. Sad.

Um, you do realize we drafted a 3-tech in the third last season, right?

How is he overrated when he didn't get a chance to do anything? And I think it is sad that we have to try to emulate the Patriots.

Don't see him nearly as a BPA at pick 47.

He'sa Cowboy now, so I'm with him.

The first sentence of his description,(Jerruh sure loves his third-round prospect),tells you all you need to know about it.
