Why has our D sucked since the 3-4 switch?

I mean in 2003 our D kicked butt in the 4-3 and many years before that.I know that RW has sucked since the switch.not that it would have anything to do with him or maybe the scheme does,idk.the 3-4 is ran by so many teams now,whats baltimore run especially in their hay days?

Quite simply-we don't have a monster 330 pd Wilfork/Jamaal Williams/Casey Hampton at NT. Jason Ferguson is pretty good, but this mere 315 pder ain't gonna get it done(plus he has zero pass rushing skills).

All in all-we just can't get alot of movement in that middle, which should open things up from there.

All in all-we just can't get alot of movement in that middle, which should open things up from there.

Our run defense has been fine the past three years and this year Dallas was 3rd in sacks (mainly because we got rid of Zimmer and hired Wade).

Problems we've had on defense are usually do to the pass coverage of LB's and whomever has played the #3 CB spot and free safety (before Hamlin), and the pass rush (prior to Wade coming here).

They also had no pass rush, which was the case the entire 7 years of Zimmer's tenure as D-Coordinator. We also had Tony Dixon starting at safety, probably the worst safety I've ever seen. It was amazing to chart him and watch him go to the wrong receiver roughly 50% of the time.

We were 6th in rushing yards allowed/game.
We were t-13th in rushing yards allowed/carry.
3rd in sacks.
5th in QB rating allowed
t-6th in Yards Allowed Per Pass Attempt.
t-6th in Interceptions
9th in completion % allowed.

also we have 1 dimensional players(guys who can't cover) holding us back like ellis and roy. we also only have 1 good corner so we have to play alot of zone.

I saw a defense lead us to a 13-3 season

Lots of sacks and pressure and turnovers. Our Offense let us down in playoff losses past 2 years.

In 2003, and 2004 - we led the league in penalties for pass interference - and those yards do not count on total defense. You THINK we had a good defense because our YPG wasn't that high - when in reality, lack of pass rush, and sorry corners - led to pass interefence kindgom. Mario Edwards still gives me nightmares. Our 3-4 is so much better than the 4-3 - you would literally have to be blind not to spot that. We were 3rd in the NFL in sacks this year - our defense is just head over better than any 4-3 defense we put on the field past 2003. It's just not even close.

I hate to do this, there is so much negative stuff on here.

You really ought to watch some Dallas games next year. The 06/07 teams are so light years ahead of the Poodle/Zimmer years thats its hard to take your thoughts seriously.

The 06/07 teams still have warts mind you, but its not as butt ugly as the earlier stuff.

Baltimore runs the super secret 4-3-4 Rayisgonnakickourass Weak Bandit Over as their base defense.

Dallas would have to get all new players for that sparky.
