Why haven't we already signed Josh as the OC?

Holy Larry, you don't know the difference between being able to draft and being able to call plays?

Dude. That's just bad.
What plays do you call for a guy that can't throw the ball and has bad mechanics?

Where did you get this info from?
What info? That he’s not been successful anywhere outside of NE? Or that he hasn’t been sufficiently humbled?

I think the results outside of NE speak for themselves - being hired twice principally due to his supposed prowess only to be fired both times. His only success has been in the NE system under Bill and with Brady.

As far as not being humbled, that’s an editorial statement on my part. Maybe he has, maybe he hasn’t. Regardless, it still boils down he has not succeeded away from Bill and Tom.

I think so.
Besides- FO deciding to shoehorn McDaniels halfway through the season to basically move aside McCarthy and override/ dictate to Scottenheimer a change in his role...not sure the incumbents would sit well with the change.

McDaniels clearly isn't a head coach. I think he has some ability as an OC, but he'll need to prove it outside of New England first.

If I were him, I'd take a college OC job for a season, maybe at an SEC school. Use that to rehab my stock a bit.

Don't forget --- McDaniels interviewed for and was hired as the head coach of the Colts...but later that day backed out of the job --- supposedly because his wife told him she didn’t like Indianapolis, and wasn't moving there.

He will probably be back in NE when O’Brien gets canned.
And be the heir apparent to Belichick-- who turns 72 next spring.
McDaniels will be OC for two years, as The Hoodie will try to get 29 more wins this season + 2024 and 2025 to become the NFL's all time winningest head coach:
1. Shula____328
2. Halas____318
3. Belichick_300

No thanks!!! Word coming out of Las Vegas is the players couldn't stand him. I wouldn't even let him fly through Dallas for a connecting flight.

Then he'll hang in there (health permitting \ with Kraft's blessing) through 2026.
NE currently 2-7; out of the remaining 8 games, possible 4 wins
(IND, @NYG, LAR, NYJ...writing off @PIT, KC, @ DEN, @BUF)
Finishes 2023 with 305 total; three 9-win seasons gets him there.

HOWEVER- the fanbase is already grumbling about the game passing him by - especially because Belichick refuses to remove himself as GM and allow someone else to handle that position.
If the team can't go at least 4-4 the rest of the way...the heat will get turned up a lot once the season ends.

His only college experience - senior grad assistant at Michigan State, under HC Nick Saban - a quarter-century ago (1999).
But with his extensive, ultra successful resume with the Patriots,
numerous Power 5 conference schools would pitch for his services.
