Even if he had a strong belief he was in play for the next HC job in Dallas, I'd say he'd be foolish to not at least discuss other opportunities. Interviews of this nature are a great learning opportunity that can give a guy an important perspective on how the NFL works and the different manners that different teams do things. A young coach needs to seek out that sort of information, learn from it, and become better because of it. It is all about perspective.
True.
Personally, if I had a contract in place that stated that I was the next Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys, I probably wouldn't be doing any interviews.
As far as setting the "Market Price", I just don't believe it. Why would you try to set the "Market Price" as a Head Coach, when:
1) You have a contract that states you are the next HC
2) The current HC is probably going to be coaching next year
I believe Jason Garrett strongly believes he will be the next Head Coach of the Cowboys but I just don't think it is in writting.
I personally think that he is keeping his options open because he understands the principle of "striking when the iron is hot" and there are too many uncertainties with regards to the time frame of him being named Head Coach here.
