Why is no one talking about the Pats resting people?

A lot of you have said you would like to see the Pats lose their first game in the Super Bowl against us. I , however would love to see them lose a playoff game instead.

If the Boys make it to the SuperBowl and the Pats were the competition I don't think I could take two weeks of the incessant talk of them having a perfect season. It would drive me absolutely bonkers.

This pursuit of perfection is already got me turning off my TV. The Colts, Cowboys and the Packers have had great seasons. The Cowboys have had their best season in history record wise and all we hear about is the Pats.

The Colts lost to them by a small margin without their best WR and the NE secondary is weak. Peyton will have a great day if the weather is good. Their run to the Superbowl is just as much in doubt as the Cowboys IMO with theirall out passing attack that can be stymied by bad weather. The colts have a much better game for bad weather.

I want them to lose so bad it is not funny!

I would love it to be the Cowboys who sinks their prefect season. Having 2 franchise who have had simular success facing off in the SB would be one for the ages.

Me too. I'm worried that if they lose that they'll have a chip on their shoulder.

If they go 16-0 and make it 18-0 going into Arizona, maybe there's a better chance of them sort of overlooking the NFC rep (read:the Cowboys :D)

I agree. Let them win. Let them get to the Super Bowl and have all the hype be about the perfect record clinched by a Super Bowl win. Let the Cowboys (assuming they'll be playing in Arizona) get overlooked and overshadowed by the Patriots hype. Let the players fall in line, talking about how they're going to have to do their best just to say in the game, blah, blah, blah. Let the players take it personally by preparing extra hard. Then when the game comes, let's play smashmouth football. We're capable of playing that way with this offensive line. Let's get up early and force the Pats to pass. Let's devise a scheme similar to the one last year that the Chargers employed against the Pats. Let's be daring - onside kicks in the first half, deep passes to T.O. and Terry Glenn.
Let's send them in history with a Super Bowl loss. Let's then talk much trash after we're lifting the Lombardi Trophy as Romo is named the game's MVP.

That's the scenario I'm hoping for. :)

Believe it or not, the perfect season has nothing to do with it.

Nobody anticipates them resting because that's not Bellicheat's philosophy. He plays 'em deep into the game. In 2004, they were locked into the #2 seed and Brady played 3 full quarters. The only drama was whether they'd finish 14-2 or 13-3.

I agree that 16-0, in addition to being a "perfect season," is also the perfect set up. I hope it happens just like this.

that's what I would like to see from Romo, 2 quarters? even better, but I want him out there for some amount of time, the rest of the healthy starters should play the whole game, rest the ones w/ potentially severe injuries should they reinjure themselves this week such as Gurode, and we already know TO is ruled out

That's the way it should be. The season is 16 games long - not 16, but like 14 or 15 if we happen to have everything locked up by season's end. If people are banged up, sure - rest them. But if you sit people after a series or so, it would seem pretty easy for your team's psyche to shift from hungry to thinking they've accomplished something. That can be a tough thing to combat for two weeks.

Disagree.

Who really remembers a team that won a Super Bowl 20 years ago except the fans and players of that particular team? But most everyone does remember the 1972 Dolphins.

Probably more because they went 17-0 and won the championship, than because of the 14-0 regular season record. If the Patriots go 16-0 and lose in the playoffs, the Dolphins will still be the only "perfect" team.

Yeah, the old Dolphins could drink champagne with the victorious Cowboys after the Super Bowl.

The Bears went undefeated in 1934 and in 1942 but lost both times in the NFL Championship Game. The Cleveland Browns went 14-0 and won the title in 1948 but that was in the AAFC.

For some reason the NFL still refuses to recognize records from the AAFC (1946-1949) although they recognize AFL records (1960-1969). Probably because the AFL/NFL was a true merger while the NFL just kind of absorbed some of the AAFC teams. I believe it was part of the merger deal that the AFL records would be kept intact. Still, the AAFC was very competitive and in 1950 the Browns beat the reigning NFL champs (Eagles) in their first game in the NFL and won the NFL Championship that year in a squeaker over the Rams so obviously the competition wasn't as bad as some would like to believe.

I hate that Bob Griese is credited with that 1972 undefeated season as he was out for most of the year and Earl Morrall was the QB but he doesn't get the credit for it. Griese is in the HoF mostly due to that season when he wasn't even the QB for most of it.

BTW: the Dolphins didn't rest anyone in their final game that year even though they had locked up home field. Nobody did back then, it would have been unthinkable for a team to play scrubs in a regular season game.

I think the Patriots would be -- darn what is the right word -- stupid I guess not to go for it.

Brady wants to play, Moss wants to play, take them out and they will be flat out mad.

Sounds like the Giants are going to play their starters, so the Pats should just say OK, we don't want to go for it, you can have it.

Get real already.

Hey, We can set a record also with a win over Washington. If we win and go 14-2 on the seson, we set a club record as the forst Cowboy team to do that. That would be pretty cool. But I guesss since we aren't New England, and don't cheat, that's not important. We should rest our starters instead because we'll need all the help we can get against Greem Bay, who has all but beaten us. Media-spin blah blah blah...

So can I assume that the "outraged" Mr. Jacobs will play the entire 60 minutes for those fans who didn't sell out?

Things like that will stick with you forever. That's why you shouldn't cheat in the first place ;) 20 years from now I will still think of the Patriots as the Cheaters.

Season ticket holders can make a profit of 10x. Lucky them. For a game that means nothing to the Giants and everything to the Pats.

Free market economy. Take the cash and run Giant fans. I have no issue with it, and yes, I am a Pats fan.

But me, I went to every single Pats game. Rain, sun, snow, whatever. But that kind of money would be hard to turn down. Be honest.

I don't begrudge the Giants fans for turning a profit. The point is that he's calling out G fans for not showing up, in the full knowledge that his butt could be on the bench by halftime. Why should they show up for a game that he himself (and many other starters) might not play in?

Exactly, I just paid $100 for a ticket that I can get $1,000 for. And still watch the game -- that does not mean much to Giant fans. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Now, as a Pats fan to go see them win it all, well that is another story. But if I was a Giant fan, the $1,000 please.
