I personally was not surprised by the loss by Peyton, but not to such an extent. I have seen him enough as a Patriots fan and if there is bad weather, or a big game he seems to fold. I am not quite sure why. So while everyone else was thinking the Broncos would win, I did not. Just a bit surprised by the score. Complete shut-down. That I did not expect.
That does not take away from what he has accomplished. It used to scare me when we played during the regular season (when he was in Indy), it was always a close and tough game. But when the chips were down, not so much. It really makes no sense.
Bottom line, Seattle played an awesome game and they should be proud of their team. And with the youth on their team, they will be a force to be dealt with for a while even considering the cap. But it is hard to win a SB, very hard. So who knows?
Does this take away from his legacy, sure. Is he the GOAT, no. Simply because of the folding in games that really are important. Montana is the GOAT in my opinion.
Times are a changing and the "old guard" is changing. New young QB's with lots of talent. And the thoughts of a balanced team as well. Defense and offense and special teams as a balance are the new SB champs next year.
So we have to wait until next year to see where things wind up. Who knows?? But overpaying for a QB at the expense of a balanced team seems like a bad choice. Can you say Flacco. I am not going to get into the Romo contract. But it seems like you over paid. Seems like Seattle has most likely changed the way contracts will be formed in the future. A balanced team.
Next year.
Seattle will have to pay big eventually for some of their star players. I doubt with all his crowing about being the best CB Sherman will take anything less than a huge deal. Wilson too. It'll be interesting.
