At least give the guy a chance to make his point before thrashing him.
Agreed.

If anyone else had made the thread, it wouldn't even be an issue. Anyway, here's what DMN Calvin Watkins said in his chat.
TMAN: What's up with Bobby Carpenter? Not much playing time and no impact on the defense.

Calvin Watkins: Bobby Carpenter is not playing well in practice or during the games. Next year is an important year for the former first-round pick. Carpenter has to be more aggressive against the run. Sometimes he appears to backoff when opposing teams run toward him.

Why does he have to be a bust. To be fair he is playing behind two guys who are playing damn well for us. His problem might just be a lack of expereince when compared to James and Ayodell. He could be just a step below those guys, so obviously they are getting playing time. If one of them goes down we will be thankfull for him. I think he has the ability just is in a unfortunate situation. We really have not seen anything that makes him a bust. Its not like he is playing behind scrubs.

Come on.

If he continues to only see ST action then he's a bust pure and simple. Good players get on the field. It isn't like he's stuck behind pro bowlers or anything.

Honestly, I don't think we can afford to play him first round money to cover kicks. JMO.

1st round picks start.......thats why....

Even our 2nd rounders should start....at some point.....Jerry Jones got abused here for drafting Carter who....maybe by default....started for us and played reasonably well.

Eills has been bashed because of where he was drafted...

When you are a 1st rd pick....expectations are high....

Is this surprising?

The townspeople can only take hearing "wolf" so many times before they go ape-****, and deservedly so, IMO.

The thread is legit, this time. Carpenter doesn't appear to be any good.

Shallow victory? Neither is Manny Lawson.

Has anybody seen Akin Ayodele make a play yet this season.

Anyone?

At this point, I hope Burnett pushes himself into the starting lineup. Bradie has made his presence felt. Akin has been Claude Raines out on the field.

Carp has been pretty disappointing so far. Most of the Draft Experts tabbed him as a good pick by Dallas. Perhaps the attention paid to AJ Hawk was one of the reasons he did so well at Ohio State, but, at any rate, he was not one of Parcell's better picks.

He's pretty good on Madden though... he stands up to the lineman and makes plenty of stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Madden must've had high hopes for him also....

I would be interested in what some real football posters know about Carpenter? What his deal is?

As opposed to the IGS group and people declaring him a bust 1 and 1week into his career.

It's year 2. This is james' 5th season and he is JUST NOW looking really good. Burnett is in his third and is just now getting more and more plays.

I don't know whether he looks good or bad, but I am willing to give it more time.

Of course James was a 2nd day pick and Burnett was picked a round later than Carp.

I'm pretty sure 1st rounders get more $$ because they are supposed to contribute sooner.

I'm not calling him a bust. I am saying that if his career continues on its present trajectory that he will be a bust.

I still subscribe to the 'forget where you got the player mentality.' I can be just as patient with a first rounder as I can with a 2-4. If he washes out, sure, he'll be a bust. But we are pretty good at the position, I'm not going to declare him one yet because he can't get on the field.

the reason he can't get on the field is because he sucks.

The 2-0 start might be better for Carp than for anyone else. It's put the focus on the team and taken all the heat off him for not being able to play.

I was all for the pick but I'll admit it when I'm wrong. It looks like Carpenter can't play.

I'm leaning that way myself. I thought he'd be the perfect fit for the 3-4. He doesn't look like the player he was in college.

Don't get it. He should have the skills. He looked good in limited exposure last year.
