Is this surprising?

The townspeople can only take hearing "wolf" so many times before they go ape-****, and deservedly so, IMO.

The thread is legit, this time. Carpenter doesn't appear to be any good.

Shallow victory? Neither is Manny Lawson.
Manny Lawson has made more plays than Carp this year.

Manny Lawson has made 2 plays this year.

Why can't Bobby Carpenter get some snaps at fullback?
Hoyte got banged up last year, so why can't Bobby and Deon and Ollie share the FB load?

At least give the guy a chance to make his point before thrashing him.

I don't have 300 lifetimes to spare. Sorry.

Shanle, Boiman, Fowler, and Fujita were all good linebackers who couldn't make it here but are doing well with other teams. Maybe Carp is of the same mold.

To heck with Carpenter! What a bust Ware is turning into! Here we are in the second week of his third season and he hasn't got a sack this season. The guy was supposed to be a candidate for DPOY! What a hype job he turned out to be.

Returning to your regularly scheduled agenda.

Don't forget Crayton. :D

I kept thinking yesterday that if we'd drafted our 1999 to 2002-style late round picks the last few years-- even with the first day still intact -- we'd have been in huge trouble. If Crayton, Ratliff, Reeves, and maybe even Nate Jones can't play, we're in big trouble... Maybe even the difference between winning and losing.

And BTW, I do see Carp making some special teams tackles now. But it still looks like he's going to end up a huge bust. Shame.

Yeah, the depth has definitely kept us afloat ... you could make a strong case that we've found more players in Day 2 and undrafted free agency in one year under Parcells/Ireland than we found in 8 years under Lacewell combined.

Not that I'm trying to diminish how badly it sucks when you strike out on Top 50 picks, by any means. Kind of a strange deal between Burnett, Carpenter and Spears. I almost see a reoccurring pattern among the three ... I don't want to say soft ... but kind of chatty, All American guys who played at big programs and perhaps had an over inflated opinion of themselves. None of the three appear to enjoy the real dirty work that comes along with the game. I'm not really sure how you screen for things like that in the draft process. I don't know if you can accurately read those things until you get a player out on the practice field and work with him everyday.

Maybe we need to start drafting more quiet, surly, loner types like Ratliff. Ratliff makes it hard for me to feel too sorry for Carpenter and his position bouncing. Ratliff played three different positions in college, and does nothing but bounce around from position to position when he comes to the Cowboys ... yet you never hear him complain or make excuses about how he's being handled. He just goes out and busts his butt and makes plays. Want me to go out there and play the 3-4 noseguard position 30 lbs. underweight and take on double teams all day? Sure, whatever you need of me.

Care to elaborate? what is the current "trajectory"? what is he doing and not doing?

What is he doing? He's playing special teams.

What is he not doing? Playing on defense.

Isn't that enough for you?

Bradie James was maybe the best special teams player on the team in his rookie year. Year 2 he was sharing time in the starting spot. Year 3 he took the starting spot and played extremely well (well enough to earn a nice contract extension).

Note the progression from year to year? We're not seeing that from Carpenter thus far. If anything, he's going backwards. Did Carpenter even replace Bradie in the nickel yesterday?

In year 2 parcells did everything he could to hand James the starting job over Coakley, and in year two James did everything he could to prove he wasn't ready. He was an afterthought.

In year 3 he was overrated - he was OK, earned an extention, but not great. Again - that was year 3, Carp isn't even there yet.

In year 4, well...let's not discuss.

And now he is finally looking good, better than I've seen him yet, albeit for two games.

So, thus far, all he has on Carpenter is the fact that he was a good ST player his first year.

He was still a part time starter in year 2 .. Carpenter can't even get in on nickel packages.

Only to this board, who seems to make sport out of kicking and dogpiling on Bradie James would people say James was overrated in Year 3. I doubt you would find many scouts who thought James was overrated in Year 3. I thought he was playing the best MLB this franchise has seen since Ken Norton. He was outright dominant for several games, especially in the victory over the Eagles. He out Trottered, Trotter. He didn't just get an extension, he made himself a priority resign.

For a 4th round draft pick, Bradie James produced well and beyond what you could possibly expect in his first three years.

I think the same could be said of Henry in terms of this board.

Burnett is healthy and better. Carp when on field mainly is Casper the invisible ghost. JM0 - Thats why he is not in game.

Not many explanations aside from "he sucks"

It was hot in Miami and in Week 1 Burnett didn't get any defensive snaps. You would think this would contribute to Carp actually seeing the field.

It didn't.

He's not hurt.

Therefore a reasonable conclusion is that he sucks.
