Why it's ridiculous and wrong to demand that Jerry step down as GM

It has nothing to do with mediocrity and everything to do with a 'comparative' scenario involving killing and maiming the entire team and coaching staff with a grenade.

Dude...
You know that was a metaphor. Maybe not a good one...But I stand with the metaphor. Minus the grenade.

The NFL profit shares. It is not that simple.
Yes, and there are many other factors beyond that that affect profitability and make the Cowboys the most valuable sports franchise. If disgruntled fans were the only factor needed to affect ownership, then there are many other sports franchises that would have changed hands because of it before now. These owners have many streams of revenue that make their team profitable for them to the extent that Jerry can play GM without there being any real repercussions for it. Generally if we see a team sold, it's because the owner dies and his heirs would rather sell it or the owner runs into financial problems in their other business dealings and sells the team because of the revenue that can generate, which is why Bum Bright sold the Cowboys to Jerry and played a role in Murchison selling the team to Bright (although Murchison's health also has been given as a reason).

Great post. I have talked about this topic for well over a decade. It is appreciated seeing rational insight introduced into reactionary discussion.

Bold is an excellent question. The answer is none but I would like fellow members to reflect upon an actual attendance perspective.

Between the 2013 and 2023 seasons, Jacksonville had the worst NFL team record-wise--at a combined 58-121 (link). During that span, the cost of two people attending Jaguar home games rose from $93 in 2013 to $142 in 2023 (link). The increase was 53%, 14% higher than the league average of 39%.

EverBank Stadium's seating capacity is 69,838 (link). Omitting 2020, Jacksonville home attendance averaged *64,193--with a low of *59,968 in 2021 and a high of *69,073 in 2018. Jaguars home games in 2023 averaged *69,066.

Arguably, having a bad football team does not empty stadiums in this era of the NFL. Florida is a football state but I would also argue football is king in Texas.

So, what is the plan, a real plan not involving fantasy or wishful thinking, that reduces home attendance in AT&T Stadium artificially by 10%? 20%? 35%? 50%? More?

I have been asking these questions for years on this site and have never gotten a logical answer. Worse, the best realistic suggestion ever offered was... billboards. True story.
___________

* Attendance links (per pro-football-reference.com): 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
I think most fans are more casual than most of us who come on a message board to discuss the team and vent. They go to games to have a good time (not all of them, but many of them). Obviously, the more serious fans do sometimes show their disgust with losing by not attending, by not buying merchandise, etc. But overall, Dallas is one of only two NFL teams in big ol' Texas, where football is king. Casual fans are simply not going forsake them simply because they are bad. Only those of us whose souls are crushed by seasons like this one are going to possibly not show up because of how losing makes us feel, but even most of us are going to go into the next season hoping for better (maybe not expecting it, but hoping).

Bold> I think the logical disconnect for some members is that they greatly overestimate the number of 'serious' fans attending games, buying merchandise, etc.

Jerry Jones WAS a great owner when he stayed out of football decisions and focused on marketing. As soon as Jimmy Johnson left, it went downhill and hasn't changed in 3 decades.

Jerry Jones is THE problem and is a complete imbecile GM. Incompetent is an understatement. Anyone defending him after 1994 is a fool.

A bit like disney. They had a little bit of backlash on stuff...but generally speaking, from broken rides, unimaginable prices, fees and "extras", long lines, social agenda...

they fill the park every single day. People don;t care they just want their good time.

Jerry owns the team. He has the right to be the decision maker. He risked everything to turn the Cowboys into a money maker. As much as I disagree with his decisions and loathe his way of doing things, I am adamant that it is selfish and unfair- and silly- to expect him to stop being in charge
Those demands are silly and naive, and the media that asks those questions are the most unprofessional of reporters, and that is saying something.
But what fans and media can/should do is to crucify his poor decisions and stop supporting his business. He is only successful because he has convinced fans and media to buy what he sells. Most businesses that put out such a poor product end up out of business.
If the Cowboys that Jerry Jones sells are not what he represents them to be, fans and media alike must stop giving him a pass. His sales should drop and layoffs should follow.
If he faces financial ruin, he will have no choice but to either sell the business or put a product on the field that is worth buying.
Jerry has been careless, and his product is worthless.
Fans and media must quit buying it.
You are correct, he's the money man, but it's very apparent that he has gone full circle with this team. Yes, the organization is worth a ton of money but is it any better now than the day that he brought the Cowboys.............HELL NO! This organization is on the cusp of being a bottom feeder in the EASTERN DIVISON for years to come. Everyone IS going to get better going into the 2025 season except the Cowboys, who have too many holes and not enough CAP SPACE to fill them and on top of that Jones has turned into some penny-pinching idiot who isn't the same man when he purchased the Cowboys and upgraded the whole organization before our eyes almost 40 yrs ago when he brought in a football genius to run the football side of things. He's gone off his rocker and it trying to squeeze every penny out of his dollars that aren't tied to CAP SPACE money. The Cowboy coaching staff is a shell of itself that once was a great staff back in the 90s! All the great asst coaches don't want to coach here because of the lousy pay and the constant interference of the ownership group.

It’s not ridiculous for fans to see Jerry’s failures and want them fixed. It’s not gonna happen though

And those are years that I and many other long time fans are no longer willing to give.
Jerry had the chance to keep us, but instead he chose to kick us in the teeth with first Jason Garrett, and then Dak Prescott.
He did what he wanted to do, and showed how little he cared about the fans.
He alienated the fans who supported him.
Now he's on his own.

I don;'t find it silly or naive. The GM's job is to put together a championship team. He has failed at this job for close to 30 years. It is like a post I wrote the other day on "does Jerry really not want to win?" He wants to win his way and his way is a failure so my answer is he doesn't want to win. If your GM is stuck in a cycle of ineptitude the demand is he go away. 31 other teams have owners that aren't the GM and who don't answer questions in a hallway after every game.

Unproductive would be better wording, because we know it's not going to happen. He's running out the clock now, way too late in the game for him to make such a massive change.
