Why no help for Steele at the end?

They didn’t know he was going to be incompetent in the final drive.

..Thats on MM or OL coach. They should have seen Chazz from the get go.

Threw in Richards, who at least could have blocked the dude in front. Not rocket science.

The Eagles got three sacks in the last three minutes. It was clear that Steele was getting rag dolled by Philly's D line. When the game came down to the end, why didn't the coaching staff give Steele any help? I'm just at the point where I think even if Dak is 100% perfect, the coaches will somehow screw it up against a good team at the end. The Eagles were tossing their scrubs in to cover short term injuries to their CB's and we still can't take advantage of the situation. And no, I'm not defending Dak here--he made mistakes but balled out for the most part. But a great coach could have mitigated those, and we could have won this game.

Ya know, Aaron Rodgers may have been right all along.
MM leaving Steele on an island to prove his worth, it's not exactly a slow response in making a change vs devaluing, but we definitely better be sure Steele is actually replaceable, can't play anymore which is a close call, before we try and make an upgrade with available depth.

Making that change and then finding out that what you replaced Steele with is worse than you got now just invites real issues brewing in the locker room as well.

You can have a TE or RB chip him to make sure he does not beat Steele on an outside rush. The TE can still get out on a pass route. Teams do this all the time to Parsons.
That would require an in-game adjustment. We don’t do those bc that would reflect poorly on our preparation during the week and we believe in our preparation.

I'm not saying replace Steele. He showed before the injury that he has game. I'm not saying that he'll the next Lane Johnson, but he's not the dumpster fire some are now making him out to be. What I am saying is that it made no sense to not help a struggling player on the most important series in the entire game.

Steele has already proven once he deserves his place in this league, he beat out Knight lol.

Please, me bland friends of the scrubland and low lands: This why we end it badly each year.
We need Dak.
Steele is a liability to Dak.
But what are the options besides a guy named Chuma?

That's just a mistake on the part of the coaching staff right there.
The coaches do what they can with what the Joneses and execs provide re the draft and FA.
Blimey!
Jimmy controlled the draft and FA (no cap, yes), unlike Mac and Quinn today who can only request their draft wants.
Again, good chap, the coaches can only coach with what is provided to them.

Speaking of which, did Quinn specifically want Mazi? Just curious.

Always had reservations about Steele and I posted them here on this very forum. A few years back when Collins and Tyron were healthy he did not play. He sat. With Smith that is understandable. Tyron was as good as any LT in the game. But Collins was good only part of the time. He was hurt a lot and seemed to be off the field too much because of injuries and stuff. Steele should have been able to move Collins to the bench. But it took a few years until Collins left. Then last season Steele got injured and my reservations grew.

So, with Tyron nearing the end of an outstanding career and Steele playing the way he has been so far this season could the Cowboys be looking for TWO offensive tackles this offseason? If so, that is hard. Not as hard as finding an elite QB but hard enough. Finding two NFL starting caliber players at that position.

Some say Tyler Smith is the answer. Play him at tackle. Tyler is good and Tyler is big but he cannot play two positions at the same time. Even moving Tyler over means you still are going to need two OL players. Likely two tackles.

One final thought. We are leaning a lot about the offensive tackle depth on this roster. If ever a backup is going to make a splash and start playing it should be now given the way Steele is going.

that was a coaches decision on protection scheme. they had plenty of evidence during that game that he was struggling. yet, they didn't change anything.

Bc you have to get receivers into the play to stress the coverage.

At some point, your OL needs to win to have a chance.
you have to have time to throw, if you don't 5 WRs aren't going to do you any good. specially down close to the endzone, where everything is tight. there is no go route you can call.

they should have changed the scheme having seen Steele play like he did all game. if they didn't recoginize it then they are blind

I just dont understand how Steele doesn't get help there at the end. He was abused, especially those last 5-6 minutes. You went 5 wide there, no backs so that's screaming quick throw there by Dak. It should shock no one that Steele got beat for the game ending sack (for all intents and purposes). Why not even just chip the DE on Steele's side?

Questionable decision by coaching staff, awful play by Steele and yeah, Dak probably needs to sense what's going on better and fire that ball somewhere quickly to not take a sakc.
