Because it's not a sexy pick?
Because it's not a glorious position?

CB?
OT?
OG?
LB?
FS?

IMO, our biggest glaring need is a NT.
The NT is the anchor of any 3-4 defense. It is a vital position for success in stopping the run and getting to the passer.

As of now we have an aging Ferguson and...
????

Ferguson needs some relief in rotation and what happens if he gets injured?

And please don't give me M. Stanley as the solution. He was cut from camp and then cut again from JAX before returning to Dallas as Practice Squader.

I agree that its a glaring need...Ferguson was decent last year, but on his last leg i think....And there are no legit back ups...But maybe there is no talk, because these guys can be found in latter rounds..Kinda like when Parcells found Ferguson in the 7th when we was with the Jets

Montavious Stanley, we cut him and resigned him....he's very raw. I would think we need to draft or sigh some depth. As far I am concerned it's been a position w/some legitimate concerns.

I read last week that Stanley really learned how to play the position after we cut him that is one of the reasons we brought him back. I guarantee you Phillips has made a decision on him. We find out how highly (or lowly) he feel about Stanley on draft weekend.

Thank you...that has me concerned too!

Well until I do know I will remain concerned ..... If Ferguson goes down concerned may not be the proper word to describe our feelings.

After having said that, there is no help in FA....the draft would be the only way we could beef up the position.

But what if Fergy got hurt in the 1st or 2cond game of the season? Are you prepared to let the defense rely on this rookie or are you content on watching teams gash us up the middle for 4 or 5 yard gains? Can Stanley command a double team?

I think there should be some concern there.

I don't know how many NT's that are worth drafting this year to really comment. BUT I wouldn't be opposed to a day one pick being used to secure a good one we can work with.

I wonder if Keith Jackson Jr could be strong enough to be an NT. He's only around 300lb at 6' tall but he's a heckuva player.

Is there a highly thought of NT availabe in the draft at 22 or later? I haven't heard of one.

Okoye is a 3 technique guy and should be gone by 22. Alan Branch might be a NT prospect, but at 6-6 he may not have the ideal leverage for the position and also should be gone by 22.

(In free agency) A vet backup type I would look into on the cheap would be Seth Payne. He has had some injury problems(but that was as a starter)but was a pretty good NT for the Texans and was also a leader.

I just figured there wouldn't be one when Dallas picks at 22. By all means if Branch is there take him. Dallas needs a NT that can collapse the pocket not just hold his ground.

That still doesn't excuse the fact that in 2008, we will be looking for a starting nose tackle.

because backup NTs can be had late in the draft

Dallas needs more than a backup. They need a dominating NT kind of like Jamal Lewis.

If you are trying to prove a point, it helps if you get the player name right.

This position worries me too even though Fergy is a stud.

If he goes down we're in trouble.
