Because it's not a sexy pick?
Because it's not a glorious position?

CB?
OT?
OG?
LB?
FS?

IMO, our biggest glaring need is a NT.
The NT is the anchor of any 3-4 defense. It is a vital position for success in stopping the run and getting to the passer.

As of now we have an aging Ferguson and...
????

Ferguson needs some relief in rotation and what happens if he gets injured?

And please don't give me M. Stanley as the solution. He was cut from camp and then cut again from JAX before returning to Dallas as Practice Squader.

Not anyone worth our first rd pick at NT. there have been numerous threads about Wilfork and Ngata in the past. We will probably take one in the 3rd or later.

I think Tank Tyler could fill the need. He is a little small at 6'2" and 306, but without looking it up, I think he had the highest amount of reps at the 40 in this year draft. 42 - I think. Problem is I don't think he is worth our #1 and he will likely be gone by our #2 pick.
A better fit may be Paul Soliai from Utah he is 6'4" 344 and ran a 5.14 at the combine, which is FAAASSSST for a guy of his size. He should be there when we pick in the third and maybe even in the 4th. I only watched one Utah game this year, when they were stomped by Boise St., but then alot of teams were stomped by Boise St!

Just a guess, because your hands were broken and you couldn't start one but can now?

You want your nose tackle to be a short squat fire plug. Spears is too tall.
Around 6' 2" is about max; weight AT LEAST 300 lbs, and bigger IS better.
The all pro NTs are like that and quick and strong as well. Very few of them around. Another way is to get a massive 350 or so pounder and use him to soak up blockers and plug the middle up. Problem with THOSE guys is you have to have 2 since they get tired quick. The Mont was supposed to have really improved when we got him back- we will find out this TC. Really do not see a concern;a late round pick at best. I wonder if that kid from Utah, or was it Utah State that I thought was worth a picka nd ended up signing with the Dolphins and got cut at end of camp. He was like 5'11" and weighed like 340.

If Alan Branch or Amobi Okoye slip to #22 you just might see the Cowboys draft a DT.

All this talk about NT needing to be 340lbs. No they don't! 340-350lbs is fat! You need a 300lbs guy that knows how to use leverage. Shorter and stronger is prefered. BTW, Ferguson is 6'3 310lbs.

Dallas also has Ratliff who can move over to the NT position

Ratliff also isn't a natural space eater. I wouldn't count on him. He's far more effective as a nickel tackle in the 4-3.

I really like his football motor. Why can't we put his motor in the body of someone like Canty?

There are a couple of guys out there. Cohen could be a guy who fits. He can probably play in either system, 34 or 43. I think Tyler was mentioned. He is a very nice player and has been for some time but I think some 43 team will take him to play the 3. He is boom or bust. Lots of talent but he is also a difficult coaching job. He could blow up in your face. There's a guy named Lawson-Kennedy who is built for the postion and actually played it at OSU but he's often injured.

Personally, I'd love to have Salioi. He's ideal IMO, for our NT need. Something has happened with Salioi as Utah did not dress him for there bowl game. I don't know what it was. Maybe Avery might know but in any case, I'm hopeful that it may cause him to slip just a bit. If so, perhaps we will have a chance for him.

On a side note, I love Pitcock and Alford as 34 DE prospects. I think both would fit well into that scheme.

You guys and gals are too kind. I'm saying in a post that we should pick up a guy in the 230ish round for a NT... That's a joke, I meant 330ish. But thanks for not making me look like an idiot, in which I was. Carry on. :)

Yep. Athletically, he's very well suited to a 34 DE. I don't know about his motor but he tested pretty well at the combines.
