Why Romo???

Why is Tony Romo getting thrown to the wolves?

Lets look at some facts about QB's that are considered to be some of the best in the game:

Peyton Manning didn't make it to the playoffs until his second season as a starter and didnt win a playoff game until his 6th season as a starter.

Bret Favre didnt make the playoffs until his 3rd season as a starter (and a side note he didnt make the superbowl the next 3 years in the playoffs because each time they were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys)

Tom Brady didn't make the playoffs his first season as a starter, they did win the superbowl the following season but didnt even make the playoffs the season after that.

and as for Dallas' previous SuperStar QB... Troy Aikman had 1 win in his first season, 7 wins in his second season and it was his 3rd full season as a starter before he got a playoff victory.

Also in Troy Aikmans first 48 starts he only had 17 Victories... Tony Romo has only had 26 regular season starts and 19 of those have been victories.

Tony Romo has only shattered pretty much every QB record in the Cowboys record books in what is his FIRST FULL SEASON as starting QB.

I know Dallas has fair weather fans but come on... give this kid a break looking at Aikman and comparing stats you should be elated as to what could be on the horizon for Romo and the Cowboys.

If going to Mexico with your girlfriend is wrong then what do you call what went on in the 90's with the players and their personal lives?

Does anyone even remember that Troy Aikman dated movie stars and country singers?

I'm some nonsense along the lines of "It's not all Romo's fault but he's the quarterback so the media is going to scrutinize him even more." The they begin scrutinizing him

You see, the media is not responsible for what they report. It's the players that are responsible.

What about guys like Chris Miller,Bobby Hebert,Randal Cunningham,Jim Everett, This can obviously work both ways so i wouldn't get so caught up on big names doing big things in the playoffs. There have been lots of average qb's who had really nice regular seasons and always choked in the playoffs throughout their whole career.

Brady's first season as the starter was when he took over for an injured Drew Bledsoe. It was Brady's second year in the league and he led them to a SB win. He didn't enter the year as the starter, but he did become the starter for 14 regular season games. He won his first 10 playoff games. It is hard to compare Romo to that.

Aikman won 0 games his first year. He also did not win a playoff game until his 4th year. Steve Beurlien was the starter when Dallas beat Chicago in Aikman's 3rd year.

It is another tough comparison. Romo would do no better than Aikman had he played on that 1989 team.

Romo may be good enough to win a SB for Dallas and he may not be. There just isn't enough evidence to say either way right now.

I cant believe that people are having to DEFEND Tony Romo!!

Look at the stat sheet. Yeah he can improve on some things but my lord. Tom Brady is the only person in the league that can laugh at his numbers this year. I believe only about 7 can laugh at those season numbers all time. (Td's and yards in a season).

There are a few things to worry about in this offseason, some the same as last offseason. But one of them is NOT Tony Romo.

Ummmmmmm...............have you been hanging out on Extreme Skins, Igglephans, or Big Blue Interactive for the last day or so?

To be honest-a month from now, even this STINGING loss will all but be whiped from our minds, and yes, that includes everyone on ES.

That's how life works-no matter how much we screw up, when time passes, people tend to forgive, forget, and move on.

Hey-I'm already being optimistic about next season. Tony Romo is a tough guy, he'll rebound.

I dont see how you can say Romo choked in the playoffs... last season, in the rain with a slick ball he bobbled a snap... but he drove the team down to have the opportunity for the win.

Yesterday he was 18/36 for 201 yard and a TD... had there not been 5 drops, two of which were sure TD's then he would have been 24/36 for 260-80 yards 2 or 3 TD's an no interseptions.

lets stop putting the choke tag on Romo and look as some of the real culprits... Jaques Reeves, Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton and Anthony Fasano.

This is how QB's are judged. How they play in big games.

He is now 0-2 in playoff starts and laid bricks agains teams with depleted secondaries in Seattle and NYFG. He also set himself up by partying with Simpson in Cabo leading up to game.

He looked out of his element and uncomfortable all game long.

Yeah those 90+ yard drives where the clock was used to perfection and the team converted 3rd down after 3rd down was completely uncomfortable.

Think before you throw crap against the wall.

For whatever reason, I don't have a problem with the criticism these QBs get.

It's how they RESPOND to it in the LONG run. Look at the patience and persistence of the likes of Favre, Manning, Aikman, Young, etc-they stunk it up their first few outings, but swallowed their pride and tongue to slowly get that monkey off their backs.

I will always back Tony myself. He has my respect.

Romo is the quarterback of America's team... When they win everyone loves him but IF he loses he'll get more than his fair share of the blame. It comes will being the HIGH profile QB of the Dallas Cowboys. I feel bad for the guy. Romo wasn't the one who dropped a key would be first down or gave up on the rout of a potential game winning TD pass. He didn't allow the Giants to drive 70 freaking yards on a key TD with 53 seconds remaining in the 1st half. He didn't hit a defenseless player after a key first down catch... Do I need to continue my rant here...

Give me Romo over just about ANY QB in the NFL (Brady and P. Manning)!

Another thing people have to remember is, you can't have 1 thing in place and expect to win the SB.

If we EVER want to go to the SB with Romo and this offense, we need to turn our defense into a POWERHOUSE unit.

I'm so ashamed of all the draft picks and time wasted on that fraud called the Dallas Defense. We have over looked the offense continually, and these pieces of trash can't even stop teams on a consistant basis.

All year it's been the same theme. We're constantly giving up huge chunks of yardage through the air, we can't make stops consistantly, we can't generate a consistant pass rush, and when we do, our sorry overrated secondary can't hold the fort for 2 seconds to allow the freaking blitz to get there.

Fix the Defense or we're finished.

No one has a problem with criticizing the QBs or any player. Most just want to make sure the criticisms actually apply. To say Romo looked uncomfortable all game is not true. To say he could have done some things better here and there is true. If he can fix some of those things then he could put the team in better position to win. They have actually been in decent position to win his two playoff games. They had the lead in the 4th quarter in both games and had some chance to re-gain the leads in the final seconds. It is not as if he is giving the team no chance at winning as some seem to think.

He put up 17 points agains a second string secondary. Very similar to what he did against a depleted Seattle secondary last year.

Till he wins a big game (playoffs), this question is going to stick to him.
