Why should we suspend Roy one game?

Please explain why we should suspend Roy? I've seen defenders grab a players' facemask from behind and yank their head around which can cause far more damage than doing a horsecollar tackle. Do we suspend players for those attempted tackles,no we assess a penalty on the play and fine those players. That's it. Roy was already fined and the Cowboys lost 15 yards on the play.

I understand the argument the suspension is being used as a deterrant but if that's the case, they need to apply this same type of punishment to bad face mask tackles in addition to horse tackles. You can't selectively suspend one player for a horsetackle.

There are dirty players in the NFL that get away with so much more yet are not suspended for their play on the field. Why didn't the NFL do anything when Bill Romonowski pulled off his teammates' helmet in practice and fractured his orbital bone therebye ending that players' career. Romo didn't get suspended one game for that. If you are going to deter anything why not send a message then?

Im kinda dumb founded at people trying to defend Roy. I will admit I was a little ticked off at seeing no flag on a horse collar at the 1-yard line in the Monday Night Game by one of the Chicago backs, but that doesnt change the fact that for the 3rd time this season, Roy broke a rule that exists because of him. How hard is that to understand? For him and his defenders.

If the same guy is getting several flagrant facemask penalties then he would also face the same punishment. As for Romonoski that was a while back and under a different commissioner and under different rules set down by the owners.

It's simple. It's because he's been fined three other times, each of them increasing in amount, and received a warning that the next incident would result in a suspension.

Find me a player that has broken the facemask rule...FLAGRANTLY...time and again, received numerous fines for it and then not suspended...then we can talk.

Fuhrer Goodell was not in charge at the time. He would have had Romonowski shot for that . . .

The rules committee and owners are the ones who approved this rule and the punishment the Commissioners job is to enforce it and that is what he is doing.

My thing isnt even to defend roy.. If the nfl will suspend roy for this after 3 times, why dont defense lineman and linebackers get suspended a game for 3 roughing the passer calls?

Im not big on subjective rulings, and im also not big on suspensions from in game penalties that dont result in ejections.

cause they said stop it.
they said it again.
they said it again and fined him.
they said it again and fined him and said do it again you get suspended.

why shouldn't he get suspended?

if you have a problem with the other rules, take 'em up seperately and make a case. otherwise they don't mix and match.

You see how ticky-tack so many roughing the passer calls can be though. Accidently brushing your hand against the QB's helmet is an automatic 15. You have to know what your doing when you go for the death grip at the back of the shoulder pads. Its not the same thing.

Why don't you re-read my post. I'm not defending Roy's action. I'm am criticizing the NFL for NOT enforcing these types of punishments accross the board on similar action that can cause neurological injury. If that was the case, I wouldn't care if Roy was suspended. But when I see guys attempt to tackle someone by the face mask in a desperate attempt and nothing is done, I will question this suspension.

Part of it has to do with the severity of the play and its ability to cause physical damage to the player.

Part of it has to do with the number of times the illegal play has been executed within a certain amount of time.

Most roughing the passer penalties aren't going to cause serious injury to a player. The horsecollar tackle has seriously injured several players with Roy a participant in at least 3 that I can remember.

The roughing the passer penalty and fine that was imposed on Demarcus Ware, in which he picked up the quarterback and drove him to the ground....you can bet your sweet patootie that if he did that 3 more times within a years time, he'd receive two more fines and a suspension.

So you are essentially saying it's fair to selectively punish one type of infraction and not others that cause similar harm

You can question what you like but the Commissioner is not the one who put the rule in he is enforcing the rules set down by the rules committee and approved by the owners. Roy did it, was warned and now has to face the suspension. And yes I do think if it was felt that a player was constantly getting nailed for 15 yard face mask they could come down on that player. Let me add there is also a difference in that many times these face mask are due to guys getting blocked and reaching out trying to grab hold of the runner and by chance get the facemask. If they saw a guy who was constantly going after the runner’s facemask I think they would suspend that player

um...i restate once again cause you seem to be intentionally miscontruing what i said.

if you have a problem with the other rules, take 'em up seperately and make a case. otherwise they don't mix and match.

again...

if you have a problem with the other rules, take 'em up seperately and make a case. otherwise they don't mix and match.

the question to me isn't "well what about!!!"

roy was told to stop it more than enough times. he was given a written STOP OR ELSE letter.

he didn't.

the weather today doesn't matter.
children starving in africa doesn't matter.
my lack of a social life (while very unfair also) doesn't matter.
sexual preferences of congressmen in airport restrooms doesn't matter.

IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER (in my bill murray voice of long ago)

he broke the rule after being told to stop it. he gets punished.

if you get pulled over for speeding feel free to tell the cop, then the judge, someone else got murdered, why not bust them, and let me know how far that goes.

i know what you're saying but it's not relevant to roys sitatuation to me. if someone has a roughing the passer foul that's so blantant it gets named after him THEN we're more apples to apples.

I've never seen a player called for roughing the passer unless it's obvious. In fact, it seems like there are an equal number of occassions when a QB is hit long after the play is done and a roughing the passer call isn't called. And you are telling me these defenders don't know what they are doing when they hit a QB long after the play is done? It's completely the same.

You still have to factor in the severity of the infraction to its ability to cause serious injury.

Has a shove in the chest of a QB after the ball is thrown been known to cause serious injury? NO

Has the horsecollar tackling technique been known to cause serious injury? YES

Dude you REALLY need to stop comparing things that aren't similar in nature.
