Nah, saying we had a top 5 defense based on the stats is as disingenuous as saying Dak is the second best QB in the league based on MVP voting because of his stats against bad teams. He should have played better against GB but the defense completely fell apart. Micah has disappeared in every playoff game he's played except TB too. Mazi didn't pan out his first year, drafting one defensive tackle in the first round doesn't magically address the run defense. We also had no running game for most of the season. This isn't to say alot of the blame isn't on Dak; it is. He's paid to be the reason they win games, not be a bus driver, and his drop off in play against good teams is unacceptable for a QB who is paid what he already is, let alone $55-$60m per year. But it's also completely unreasonable to think this FO has been aggressive enough when it comes to team building, especially when Dak was on his rookie deal. Maybe Brady, Mahomes, or Rodgers could have carried some of these rosters further, but that's about it, and with some of the defensive play (or lack thereof), even they would have had a tough time winning.
If you want to see a FO that does everything it can to win, look no further than Howie Roseman. Or even look at San Francisco, who are constantly making moves (trading for Chase Young, McCaffery, signing Gregory when they are already stacked at DE, etc.). Both Philly and SF have made the Super Bowl using that method, and Hurts nor Purdy are any better or more consistent than Dak. Both consistently upgrade the RB position year over year and have extremely strong and deep receiving cores. Dallas has (and has had) an extreme drop off in talent after their top two receivers, and even with CeeDee being the best receiver on the three teams, Brown/Smith and Samuel/Aiyuk are far and away superior to Lamb/Cooks or Lamb/Gallup. Should have never traded Amari.
