[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]He will never be a good DE in a 3-4 defense. He may be a serviceable defensive tackle in a 4-3 defense. This is the conclusion I have come to after watching him for about two years now on the NFL level.

Bill Parcells was wrong to draft him in the first round. There, I said it and so should you be saying it if you are Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips. This kid is not going to flick a switch and all of sudden become something he is not - a 'Richard Seymour/Luis Castillo' type of player. We need a CB in the worst way and he's the trade bait in my opinion. He talks so much he is a known guy in the NFL and he was a 1st round draft pick so we can pull the ol' 'he needs a fresh start' deal.

Jerry needs to go out and get the Cowboys a legit 3rd CB who can fill in if Newman is going to be down and can also play in the Nickel. I am not basing this off of last night's game either. I called it before the season even began that Spears would lose his starting job to Jason Hatcher and the time has come for that to happen. We also have Bowen and Ratliff so four DE's is enough to start the season off and if Greg Ellis comes back he can help out there in passing situations.

So you want Jerry to trade a No. 1 pick servicable or not in your eyes for a guy to come in and play 3rd CB for Dallas. That is not a smart move. Not in preseason, Spears will get a year to see what he can do in this new system.

I really haven't seen the change of scheme evident in Spears or Canty. They both seem to take three steps and stand up. Ratliff and Hatcher both seem more active. I will say that Spencer isn't helping matters. I would like to see Canty and Spears more active, but not ready to give up on them. They both hold there ground fairly well, but I would like to see more.

Tell me where he looked good in this training camp. He didn't. Tell me where he looked good besides playing against other college guys at LSU. He hasn't.

Cut the loss now while we can get what we can for him.
