Why Ware does not take the heat that Romo does

Is this how certain people think? That if a player never reaches the top of Everest they're just a loser no matter how much they've excelled on the field?

This isn't golf or even basketball. This isn't the Dallas Romos or Dallas Wares or Dallas Wittens. There have been a great many players that excelled at their sport, whether football or not, that never had the privilege of winning it all.

Ware isn't the player he once was obviously and the Cowboys may need to drop him in order to improve in other areas but I think he has some production left.

A team is only as strong as it's weakest link. Unfortunately for this team the weakest links or on this sideline and in the owner's box.

Bit of hyperbole there.

He was pretty bad this year, but I don't think he was that bad.

Obviously stats don't tell the whole story (for example, they don't take into account Double Teams, chip blocks, stunts, etc), but Ware still graded out 8th among active 4-3 DEs by PFF, because while he was underwhelming at rushing the passer he played the run very well this year.

And as far as pass rushing efficiency goes, he was ranked 7th among 37 4-3 DEs in the category , 14th out of 63 DEs+3-4 OLBs. [qualifier: players that have taken 50% of total defensive snaps for their team]

Other than some plays in the running game, he was invisible the 2nd half of the season. We had almost zero pass rush until the philly game.

I dont think anybody is saying that Ware is the weakest link, or that he's never got any hope at being a great player again. You only cut him b/c of his cap hit, but the fact that he doesn't produce anymore makes that decision a pretty easy one.

This is incorrect, my friend.

Tuck always had a great supporting cast with Osi and Strahan in 2007, and then Osi and JPP in 2011.

Tuck actually didn't receive much attention from the Pats because of the 2 guys mentioned. He actually wasn't even a starter that year.

And then in 2011, his snaps were limited and the way he generated pressure was because of New York's "NASCAR" packaged where Fewell had Tuck working as a DT to take advantage of a speed mismatch on obvious passing downs.

He got plenty of help.

I was referrin to 2008 play-offs in particular and I'll dispute that year. Osi has been nothing without him and JPP came on asyou sad in 2011. Strahan was Strahan, but Tuck was in full beast-mode. That playoffs, particularly the Super Bowl, he was a one-man wrecking crew. The Pats strength has always been their interior line. Brady could't step into his throws because of him.

I agree. He was very underwhelming this year after he re-aggravated his neck issues against SD. Prior to that he was a monster.

Don't get me wrong-- I'm not saying the guy was elite this year or even top 10. But 25th at his position is just hyperbole.

Justin Tuck single-handedly wrecked the Patriots offense and played like a monster the year they upset them bamas. You ain't ever seen that type of play from Ware. At least Tuck got injuries with a SB to show for it.

Agree; couldn't help that DC in ya :)

Ware probably could have broke 20 sacks three times in his career if the Jason Garrett inept offense could ever score outside the final quarter, when they abandon his game plan... This offense has sever allowed the defense to play aggressive and to attack, because DC like Wade Phillips had to worry that Garrett not being able to muster points and turn the ball right back over. That year he was fired, the offense was setting records in ineptitude with 19 TOs in EIGHT games, including the Green Bay game, the game that got him fired... They just kept handing the ball back to the opposing offense...

I can see it now. Ware gets cut and goes to another team and makes pro bowl. See John Abraham. This board proceeds to go crazy

Ware has some serious issues. You got to really consider it, no matter how much emotional attachment you have to him...

He does have issues. But he isn't done with football and another team will pick him up quick. See John Abraham. Cardinals scored with that pick up. Just saying a Belichick would know how to use Ware.

I hope he plays well if that happens, just to make these clowns, includin our hamstring heaven training staff, look even more buffoonish than they already are.

If anything, Ware and Romo, fair or unfair, receive equal amounts of blame for failure.

Romo gets the blame when he throws a pick or fumbles to lose a game. Ware gets blamed for not stepping up with a big sack or forced fumble to seal a win or stop an opponent's game-winning drive. They are/were both great players but too many times they were asked to rise above the mediocrity of their surroundings and win on their own. Individually they were great but their supporting cast lately has been lacking.

Ware is not a top QB in the league. Those guys take the most heat and he is not QB of the Dallas Cowboys.

Besides, Ware has taken heat this year and last. So many of you complain that he doesn't make enough significant plays late in games.

I don't get it, they have won zip since he has been here. One of the greatest pass rushers ever and has not won jack.

What's there not to get? He's a DE not a QB. No player influences the outcome of games more than a QB which is why they're given a W/L record.

Abraham doesn't have the same type of issues that build up and slow him down.

And how differently would a belichick have used ware this year?

Dude has had nagging injuries since early in the season.

I'd be all for him coming back at a reduced salary and possibly in a pass rushing type role.

But something has to give one way or the other.

Many will disagree but Ware isn't the player Haley was. Haley wanted to win to the point he went psycho on his teammates. Ware smiles on the sidelines during a rout in the playoffs. Haley was relentless and played mean. Ware is a great player who is more talented than Haley was but Haley had that strong desire to win if it meant taking the QB out and anyone else who got in his way. I love Ware but he disappears in big games. Haley elevated his play in big games. Ware has better Stats but Romo has better stats than Aikman so there you go.

Haley would destroy in this pass-happy shot-gun era...

Yeah, I'm for completely blowing up this core and starting over. Knowing I'm letting go of players who can still play.

But most people want to compete next year. They don't want a rebuild. So to read that and then see they want to release Ware shocks me. I've read multiple people calling him "done". I'd have never guessed this fan base would turn on him so quickly.

They're the same non-sensical people who claim that they should just cut Romo. Just cut him and grab up a FA quarterback. Or trade for Tom Brady or something. They exist in a world where free agency is full of all-world quarterbacks working in supermarkets waiting for that phone to ring. So, we should just cut Ware, head down to the grocery store and pull the next all-pro DE off the bagging lane and hand him a uniform. It's simple.

Because Ware is not the QB.

Well he deserves it....He flaps his gums every year about this and that..and most recently "Oh I'll go back to my old form" Man shut that crap up....you are not the same and can't even transform. Just hang it up

Tired of the nonchalant looks and smiles after a loss.

Ware was a JAG this season. Last season he was owned by a rookie QB in the last game of the season.
Romo actually produces. Ware sucks.
