Crayton got more balls thrown at him his Rookie year than Austin has gotten in his three year career. And I think you know Austin has done more than return one kickoff for a td. I agree Austin needs to show something but part of the reason Crayton appears "better" to some is because Austin rarely gets a legit shot...ie, that final Washington game was not a legit shot....if I had to pick who has the more potential of any of our developing WR right now, its Austin, hands down....

Agreed on the fastest guy thing but Austin has shown that his speed can kill...remember the Greenbay game???????? Why didn't Austin get more chances to do that?

I can tell by your avatar pic you hate Crayton so I'll just agree to to disagree with you on this.

I know it takes all types, but Austin is a weird player to develop a man-crush on.

In that case see ya later Crayton...at least Austin does not quit on plays and run his mouth.

Austin is one of the most undervalued and utilized guys on this team...not only are is Kick return abilities always over looked, he is THE fastest on the team. He does need to work on catching the ball some but no more so than TO. I would have him at number 3 over Crayton any day

With the kick returners we drafted, I'm not sure Austin even dresses for games if Stanback shows something.

It certainly seems written on the wall that way.

I haven't read all the post so not sure if someone has brought this up. One of the main reasons we pass on a receiver was because it was obviously a weak class. There was a total of ZERO receivers taken in the 1st round. Next year their is projected to be about 5 receivers who have 1st round talent. By Jerry picking up those extra picks he has solidified himself into being able to move up the draft from 32 :)cool:) to the low teens or even better. Jerry may put himself in a position where he may take the 2nd best WR who has the talent to be a 1st receiver.

Unless you were physically at the games there is no way you can say that he was always open. Nfl cameras rarely show the field from that angle for you to make that claim period.

You are right in that camera's don't always show the angle but I CAN see him running past his corner or beating the safety across the middle or breaking the to the post and not getting the ball from Romo. Thank you for your comment but I DONT have to be at the game to see that. He was open a lot.

Crayton caught more passes his rookie year than Austin will catch in his career. Yes he runs his mouth too much and the stopping on his route hurt badly but he has done something more than return one kickoff for a td.

Does Austin deserve a shot? yes, but when he gets his chance he has to do something with it.

Randal Williams was the fastest guy on the team for years and where did that get him?

That was the name I was trying to remember earlier.. thank you. Randal never got seperation...ever. Austin does. I don't know how. I don't pretend to know how a receiver does what he does but I do know that Austin gets open. Thank you for providing that name. :D

To answer the original question...I will say it's the same question I've been asking for the last 3 years.

I've heard and read all the reasons as to why or why not...I'm not surprised some of you are just now getting around to posing the same question.

But, as I've learned...to leave it to the powers to be, out of my hands...it's their job to get what needs to be done, and if they don't, it's their arse and not mine.

They seem to have the confidence in what they have, have also had potential draftees being plucked before they had the opportunity, perhaps not done in securing those WR roster spots and have a plan in mind...a multitude of reasons. So, it's their baby, so they have to rock it.

(Have I ever mentioned how Santonio Holmes would be looking right now in a Dallas uniform instead of Bobby Carpenter?: )

Austin dropped a few passes in the Commander debacle but it was raining. I will say this, he gets seperation, more so than Hurd. However Hurd has better hands. Still I was calling for Austin to get more reps all season, I'm a big fan and I see the potential. Now I don't understand why you say he needs to sit in front of Jugs Magazines for a few hours this off season?

hate is a strong word...but he is by far my least favorite Cowboy...I think it does not have much to do with Austin...he would be good IMO no matter what I thought about Crayton, but maybe you are right and my lack of caring towards Crayton has skewed my view, as others have said we will probably find out this season.

Me thinks we need to adress the position via trade or FA after the june 1st cuts otherwise we're asking for trouble with what we got.

We just don't have a #2 receiver regardless of what Crayton did or didn't do last year. Glenn was that guy 2 years ago, unfortunately his knees can't hold up anymore. it happens to most of them. there comes a day where your body just quits on you. Jerry is wishfully thinking he can come back for one last hurrah. After that what do we got? a bunch of 3rd stringers in Hurd, Austin and Stanback. Stanback may develop but he too has had injury concerns that have limited his play so i wouldn't count on him to be the second stringer if he ever learns the position.

so i'm crossing my fingers we have enough cap room and ammo to bring in a veteran to take some of the pressure and double teams from TO. Torry Holt would be nice, or Michael Jenkins the WR from atlanta. That way we could have two Mike Jenkins on the roster as opposed to two Roy Williamses.
