Here is why we may not be as close as some fans think we are...

First off attitude...

You have to want it... you got to burn inside with it...

Our Beloved Cowboys come out of the bye against Philly and they should have been pumped and ready but looked flat. I had at first thought it was the week after bye blues or even the death of Bill Parcells brother but it continued the rest of the season culminating in that pathetic performance against the Rams...No burn in them what so ever...

Front Office...

Offense's always take longer to build and they require time and patience...

I believe the over all direction the team took was flawed from the outset.. which was to try and quick-fix the offense and build a more aggresive defense but it should have been the other way around and patch a pretty good defense and rebuild the offense.

There has been some absolutely horrible personnel moves in Free Agency... while the teams drafting has been on par with other NFL franchises the last few years

Coaching...

I am not sure how any coach can go into a game knowing his FG kicking game is suspect and play it conservative and hope to kick a winning FG at the end of the game... it doesn't seem like a sound concept to me...

Players

It seems to take 3 years to see some of the promise these kids had coming out of college (Brady, Newman, etc...)which I don't believe is an abnormal amount of time..but it does mean that in all likely hood that unless the coaches can coach lights out or the players are exceptional that the sophmore jinx is a definite possibility..

We have the oldest set of WR's and QB in the NFL...Glenn held up well but it has not been his forte to complete an NFL season so it shouldn't be counted on again..Key has had surgery after every season he has played here, I just don't see how its not going to effect him..If we draft Wr's you have to atleast allow 3 yrs for development...

I won't go into all the positions as it has been hashed and rehashed numerous times

Other Teams

It seems strange that most fans don't believe the other teams aren't also trying to better themselves...some will have succeeded and others may not have...but what it does mean is that not only does Dallas have to improve a lot just to keep pace it has to improve a WHOLE lot of lots to get ahead of the competition...which usually means having more young players coming into their own/ having better coaching and better personnel than your competition...

While it is not impossible to improve over this year it is gonna be a tall order

but I personally believe until we take the time to rebuild the offense we are more likely to take a step back than forward...The defense may keep us in some games but in the end it will be that the offense had too many holes to quick-fix...

While I do agree that we need to improve our O-line first and foremost, I have thought for some time that our attitude is weak.

I see other teams flying around the ball on defense, ... showing emotion after certain big plays.
Football is an emotional sport, that you have to play with emotion. Like you said, you have to burn inside with desire.

We play like it is just a job.

I was disappointed in several games this year with our lack of effort, or apparent lack on interest, in BIG games !!

Something is wrong in Dallas.

Curious why you insert a new sig pic every day of Bledsoe getting flattened by someone?

I'm sure I could pick any QB in the league and produce a similar array of unflattering pictures.

You don't like Bledsoe, we get it already.

I agree. The team looked flat in 3 division games the second half of the season. NY beat us in a horrid game and the Skins beat us like a red headed stepchild. The team looked unprepared in all 3 games. Which is why I question if Parcells has what it takes anymore to motivate a team in a big division game.

And I know the o-line has had it share of problems/injuries. But how in the world do we go into Carolina and beat them in their house? I will tell you. That was a must win game and we came in with a gameplan and fire in our eyes. But that wasn't the case in NY and Washington. It doesn't make sense to me.

LOL...the sheer fact that he can change it everyday to a new pick should be concern enough....

Good post. Also think that BP is playing the same hand as he did after
his first year with the Cowboys when the team went 10 and 6. Remember,
hw confident he seem to have it all together and little was done in the off-season to improve. Then, in training camp all hell broke loose.

I see the same scenario happening again. BP is rather over confident.

Bledsoe, or the Cowboys. Take your pick.

Okie, Dokie, I guess if you don't like Bledsoe as Cowboys QB, I guess you don't like Cowboys. Alrighty then, I didn't know when Bledsoe became the main symbol for Dallas Cowboys or their franchise QB?!!

You mean when Quincy failed a drug test and was kicked of the team.
Parcells is a moron and should have seen that coming. What an Idiot.

umm, after the Cowboys got killed by the Commanders, they played their hearts out against the Panthers. I didn't see the Rams game, but seeing how they played against the Panthers, its obvious they wanted it, it was just too late.

Don't post these things if you have no base, don't kid yourself, we were an injury away from running away with the division.

It's fine to not like Bledsoe. Hell, I don't really like him. Some people just have nothing good to say about anything.

And we know they don't how?

They were in every single game this year except the Washington fiasco (and arguably the Rams, but who cares). This team got punched early in multiple games and climbed back in it.

I couldn't disagree more.

Every single team in the playoffs except the Giants and NE were in the top 10 in defense. There is no quicker way to turn around a team.

And I'm not sure I even agree with you that offenses take longer to fix.

There has been some absolutely horrible personnel moves in Free Agency... while the teams drafting has been on par with other NFL franchises the last few years
Guess what, the FA moves have been pretty on par with other teams too. FA is hit or miss.

Coaching...

I am not sure how any coach can go into a game knowing his FG kicking game is suspect and play it conservative and hope to kick a winning FG at the end of the game... it doesn't seem like a sound concept to me...

Wow you're right.

Its a much, much better idea to go to a spread offense and throw the ball around with a craptastic offensive line and immobile QB.

You nailed that one.

(BTW, anyone else see the irony here of a unabashed Bledsoe critic being unhappy that we didn't throw the ball more?)

Well, good news for Peterman and Johnson then.

See above about the fixing the defense first thing.

I won't go into all the positions as it has been hashed and rehashed numerous times
Read: i don't have time to make up bad crap about *everybody*

And a lot of teams are going to get worse next year.

Its the way the whole thing works.

And it has nothing to do with whether we improve as a team or not.

but I personally believe until we take the time to rebuild the offense we are more likely to take a step back than forward...The defense may keep us in some games but in the end it will be that the offense had too many holes to quick-fix...
Well why don't we wait and see what we do this offseason before writing obituaries then, hmmm?

You make some good points. Personally, I think all this team needs is to draft a Offensive Takle in the 1st Round and get a solid kicker like Mike Vanderjact.

Without getting into too much detail, as this subject has been beaten to death, I think those two fixes give us maybe 1-3 Wins this year if we had those things available.

Oh, I didnt notice you were changing your sig line everyday, kind of hilarous.

Funny, people have a problem with something harmless like that but it doesnt compare to some of the vicious stuff I saw when Hutchinson was on the team and when Quincy was on the team. I dont remember too much being said when those two guys were taking it :).

Those, imo, are our two biggest needs. But I'm not sure if that's the proper way to address them. A rookie OT and an idiot kicker might not get er done.

I'm not opposed to drafting an OT early, but I'm not sure one will help us right away. I obviously think a 1st round OT would be much better than a rookie 6th round OT, but from what I've read, I'm not sure BP and Jerry want to risk that spot on a rookie.
