All the guy is saying that if you are an odds man, 1st Rounders generally work out alot better than 6th Rounders.

and all I am saying is do you take a sure thing in FA a player that HAS performed on the NFL level or do you take a 50-50 shot at RT in a year we are trying to "win now"

What sure thing free agent RT's will be available next season?

And I'm a person who believes in the idea that you get what you pay for. Sure, sometimes you can get lucky and grab a Hall of Famer like Tom Brady in the 6th round. Some people win the lottery too.

But the reality is that a first round pick is likely going to outpeform a 6th round pick.

Here is why we may not be as close as some fans think we are...

First off attitude...

You have to want it... you got to burn inside with it...

Our Beloved Cowboys come out of the bye against Philly and they should have been pumped and ready but looked flat. I had at first thought it was the week after bye blues or even the death of Bill Parcells brother but it continued the rest of the season culminating in that pathetic performance against the Rams...No burn in them what so ever...

Front Office...

Offense's always take longer to build and they require time and patience...

I believe the over all direction the team took was flawed from the outset.. which was to try and quick-fix the offense and build a more aggresive defense but it should have been the other way around and patch a pretty good defense and rebuild the offense.

There has been some absolutely horrible personnel moves in Free Agency... while the teams drafting has been on par with other NFL franchises the last few years

Coaching...

I am not sure how any coach can go into a game knowing his FG kicking game is suspect and play it conservative and hope to kick a winning FG at the end of the game... it doesn't seem like a sound concept to me...

Players

It seems to take 3 years to see some of the promise these kids had coming out of college (Brady, Newman, etc...)which I don't believe is an abnormal amount of time..but it does mean that in all likely hood that unless the coaches can coach lights out or the players are exceptional that the sophmore jinx is a definite possibility..

We have the oldest set of WR's and QB in the NFL...Glenn held up well but it has not been his forte to complete an NFL season so it shouldn't be counted on again..Key has had surgery after every season he has played here, I just don't see how its not going to effect him..If we draft Wr's you have to atleast allow 3 yrs for development...

I won't go into all the positions as it has been hashed and rehashed numerous times

Other Teams

It seems strange that most fans don't believe the other teams aren't also trying to better themselves...some will have succeeded and others may not have...but what it does mean is that not only does Dallas have to improve a lot just to keep pace it has to improve a WHOLE lot of lots to get ahead of the competition...which usually means having more young players coming into their own/ having better coaching and better personnel than your competition...

While it is not impossible to improve over this year it is gonna be a tall order

but I personally believe until we take the time to rebuild the offense we are more likely to take a step back than forward...The defense may keep us in some games but in the end it will be that the offense had too many holes to quick-fix...

Good post Bro ! Thanks !

Like Marco Rivera, a FA.

or

Like Rogers and Peterman, Drafted Rookies.

It's all about inside knowledge, familiarity with the player, and a little bit of luck.

I have been told that this is the year of the Offensive Tackle. I check with my Draft Department, see what they think and go from there. If they place high values on a player in the Draft, I fill my need there.

Some people want Backus and others want Barry. I am very unfamiliar with these players, although I here Lions' fans are generally unhappy with Backus.

I do not like building my team through Free Agency.

I do no this.

Free Agency is more wide open then the draft. We pick at number 18, if a player is there that we need, we should take him.

Now Free Agency is a whole different can of warms. If some of these Free Agents are worth getting, trust me, the Cowboys are not the only ones that have them in their Crosshairs.

Personally, I am not all that concerned about winning now. I know Parcells, Jerry and alot of fans are extremely concerned about this.

I rather get some young and talented players in here and we try to win every game we possibly can as opposed to overpaying for Free Agents to win now.

Well at some point i believe the players have to be held accountable. However in defense of parcells, the problems with this team were not heart or desire or even overconfidence, but i just think there were too many to overcome. The o-line was an injury away from being inept and it happened. That was a major problem, and then there is zimmer. This guy is the most non creative def coordinator in the league. I have never seen such a passive def in my life. This scheme has not changed whether we run a 3-4 or a 4-3 alignment, it puts too much pressure on the d line to create pressure without any pressure from the blitz, and we still manage with 7 defenders in pass coverage to give up big passing plays, i don't understand it. The other thing is usually a team gets its identity (the good teams anyway) from the defense, we don't because we can't. Everybody here probably hates the Commanders but respects what they did on def. When you force the action on def, influence the action so to speak, good things happen turnovers 3 and outs. Our def because of the scheme has to wait for the other team to make a mistake and it usually doesn't happen. I watch other teams play and i realize its time for their playmaker to make a play i.e. dwight freeney, jason taylor, polomalou and the list goes on. Roy used to be that guy but teams have schemed to stay away from him and now he's useless, until the other team needs a big play that is. So while the majority of our problems lay on def remember that parcells was handicapped on offense too.
