one year #2 scoring......another top 10 scoring finish,,,, I am not excusing Garrett,,,,,his games and schemes haven't adjusted......Top ten finishes in yardage, mainly because teams just played cover two deep and gave them the yards between the 20s, but average to bottom half of the league in scoring the majority of time, and one of the worst red zone teams when all was said and done. Plenty of field goals and ‘points’ against garbage teams in hurry-up and abandoning Garrett game plans... they were pretty bad offensively in particular in the first half, meaning they abandoned the game plan by second half and let Romo gunsling..

Garrett is a manager. He sucks at being a OC. He has no clue at calling plays.
B) He's perfectly happy to sit on the outside and let all the heat fall on Linehan, with the hope that he can somehow weasel out of being fired by saying he'll call plays next season and the team will improve.

He's waiting for Jerry to call down and tell him to fire Linehan.I don't think there's anything more corwardly than the fact that Garrett refuses to take the reigns of a failing offense, even with his job (supposedly) on the line.
The only reasons I can see are:
A) He truly believes Linehan is doing a good job and that the offense is playing poorly only because the players suck and can't execute. (Which I think speaks to the coaching as well, but never mind that.)
B) He's perfectly happy to sit on the outside and let all the heat fall on Linehan, with the hope that he can somehow weasel out of being fired by saying he'll call plays next season and the team will improve.
C) He knows he'll likely be fired, and he wants to be able to say, "I have some innovative ideas I'd like to implement here that I never had a chance to in Dallas, my hands were tied." when he's interviewing for his next HC job.
To be clear, since some of y'all will fail to see the point, I'm not saying the team gets better with Garrett calling plays or that I believe Garrett should call plays.
I'm saying that as the leader of this team, with an offensive background, the fact that the HC stands by and let's this continue to happen week after week is a huge indictment on his ability to do his damn job.

Ummm.... you should've read. Everyone is screaming "NO WAY".I clearly remember when Jason was calling the plays and everyone wanted him to give it up.. now heres a thread on why he isnt calling the plays.

the Tony soprano who couldn't accomplish craap after he left Dallas....that Tony soprano....why not just say, Jimmy Bob, the guy sitting in seat 4E section 250 of the stadium....Sprano fizzled out and got demoted from one team to another and out of the league.....It was only 2 when Tony Sparano was baby-sitting him and even then the passing offense was figured out by the end of the year and couldn’t move the against the Commanders, despite trying to get Tony Romo the passing record. And then they went from 2 to actually 18 in one season.
And Linehan had a top 4 scoring offense.. Garrett offense was also a TO machine..

and people find the darnest things to justify why Garrett is bad...you don't have to go to one game, one stat...... its just too funny and ridiculous...
unbelievable..... the amount of amateurish responses
no denying that....but lets not make sprano into something he is not...and whether we like to admit it or not, all good coaches have good coordinators....they don't make every call, design every play, devise every game plan, etc. good coaches have good assistants....except maybe bilicheck.....that's how new head coaches often get hired, they ar good coordinators on other teams....ala mcvey, dan quinn, on and on and on..... and washington hasn't been the same since and neither has seattle....And yet the Cowboys were trying to re-hire him when Jason Garrett was sucking up the joint as OC and play-caller, meaning even they recognized that Garrett blew as a play-caller and needed a mediocre coach in Sparano to help him out.
Nobody is defending Sparano, it’s about how awful Garrett was even when he had Sparano here to babysit him and watch over a large portion of the offense.
Except he didn't stop. Jerry forced him to stop!!!!!!!!!!!Theres a reason he stopped calling plays. He stunk at it.
