I always think about the Laurent Robinson effect and how or why he arose that year with a limited role and did so well. The answer is that Laurent was a freak. Generally, the play would break down and the WRs had their secondary or tertiary soft spots to head for. Robinson ran a 4.38 so he had plenty of distance speed, but that wasn't it. Robinson had a nasty ten yard split and could accelerate short distance faster than the majority of the players in the NFL. He is actually tied for 6th or 7th on the all time Combine (since they started keeping track of all time records) for 10 yard splits. At six foot one and basically teleporting to an open gap in the field, Romo got used to finding him quickly.
