You tell me, just how SHOULD I have asked this question without someone assuming I was just stirring the pot? Put the shoe on the other foot: you catch highlights of Gibbs, arguing with an official then turning around and shoving/hitting Don Breaux ... then, later, is caught staring down and gesturing at the sideline camera later in the game.

What would you think?
Personally the same thing I mentioned in other threads about the subject. I'd think it was much ado about nothing.

Bizarre is about as accurate as you could call it, because it's not something you'll see on a regular basis. However I would be hard-pressed to compare Gibbs or Reid's reaction to that of Parcell's simply because it would seem extremely out of character for both of them to react that way. OTOH, that's a pure Parcell's move all the way. Right or Wrong.

And just to add I could see Coughlin doing something similar to BP, not because he's a former assistant, just because I've seen him throw his guys under the bus...

Fair enough. Thanks.

Kinda bummed though. I was HOPING to hear you all thought he'd totally lost it and this was clearly a sign the franchise was about to veer off the tracks. :)

Om, you had spoon in hand.

You ask me this question? I've had opportunity to review many situations with Gibbs over the last two years. I am a memeber of ExSkinz. How often have you seen me go over and ask the question?

That's your answer.

It's really not a big deal. Not like I'm making a federal case of it or anything. Not like your getting banned for asking it. Just making an observation that, IMO, is true to the mark.

Noticed you totally ignored the answer to your original question thou.

That would be headline news.

Gibbs would have to put down his box of Kleenex long enough to strike Breaux.

Came here looking to understand what exactly was involved in this thing. I haven't seen anything remotely resembling that since Buddy Ryan nicked Kevin McBride's chin with a straight right about 15 years ago. :)

From the highlights only, Parcells behavior on Sunday looked kinda bizarre. I do understand the sentiment that it was/is just competitiveness and all, but I have to wonder if the cameras had caught say Andy Reid, Bill Belichick, or for that matter Joe Gibbs, shoving/hitting an assistant, then later staring down and gesturing at a sideline camera, folks might not be so understanding. That they might start to wonder if maybe he hasn't kind of lost his focus just a little?

Be honestly interested to know what the level heads here think.
I think you're right. Can you imagine if a rookie head coach had done this? They'd say he'd lost his mind. But with Parcells' rep as a tough guy, it's okay.

And the same thing goes for Parcells' tirades against players who make mistakes as they come off the field. Last week, every time a player got a penalty, Fox delighted in finding Parcells so we could see the chewing-out that ensued, along with approving and even chuckling remarks from the commentators. It's as if this is part of Parcells' coaching genius, so it's okay if he does it.

And for the record, I'm not anti-Parcells, nor do I think this is a huge deal one way or another. Parcells has said a hundred times that he is confrontational and he did have a family that operated like this. But I do think that if Mike Tice did this, it would be called a meltdown, not a cute personality quirk.

I think football followers know Bill's history. There's probably been worse in his career. But I, like you, am surprised that the media hasn't crucified him over this. In this day and age of media sensationalism, this event was ripe for the picking.
