Why?

They aren't apples and apples and the team and coaches are playing for this year.
They question for the COWBOYS--because their expectations are at the very least the playoffs--is how do they maximize the results in the 2016 season?

If it was Cleveland, that question could maybe be more apples and oranges...assuming the hope is not high for 2016.

Really?

Not for my money. For my money the question is..............considering that we arent winning the SB either way, what is the best thing for this team in 2016 and beyond.

Now if the question was...............Are we better off with a healthy Romo from day #1? Then I would say yes.

But we arent. So what is the best thing to hope for going forward.

Romo is incredible. Dak looks good, but the likelihood of him to being incredible in the first 2 years is still very low.

Romo cant stay health and is a shadow of himself. 2014 Romo is toast.

I'm not here to argue with you, I'm telling you how I think they feel.

I think for SURE they feel that if they get everyone healthy, they can go on a run and advance deep or win it all with some luck.
It's a win-win--in their eyes--because they just gave their possible future QB incredible experience sooner than they expected--and they still went deep in the playoffs.

Didn't say I agreed. The defense is not there, imo.

Fair enough. But you are talking about a 100% healthy Romo in his prime. What will it take for you to realize that Romo isnt that guy anymore?

Romo led us to a come from behind win with a broken rib and puncher ed lung he led to a come from behind win with a herniated disk in his back. He led us to a 12-4 record with bones broken in his back. I am not going to give up on this guy over a broken bone. Now if he comes back and can't play, we can talk. But until I see he cant' play at his normal level, its not even a question in my mind who the starter is. He has earned that, imo. You and many others might be right, maybe he can't play anymore. But I am not going to bet against him.

I'm well aware that "Jerry speak" and "Garrett speak" are recieved and interpreted differently amongst posters here. However, I think they have made it clear Tony is the starter barring injury or retirement. He's not losing his job.
Good point but critics (and Jones and Garrett themselves) have demonized both of them so much that it is hard for some to consider what they do say.

Well, start one then. You'd get plenty of responses.
That wasn't the question for this one though.

If Dak performs, and we have a good record, Romo is done.

It will be Drew Bledsoe all over again. Romo is done, deep down we all know it, and the organization knows it.

He only comes back if we are desperate.

But if Dak is doing good, why kill his momentum, bring in bad back and shoulder Romo, just to see him play a game or 2, throw bad picks because he's scared, and then take a good lick and be out again.

Then what? Go back to Dak and say "sorry" ...."it's your Job again boss man"

Keep Romo in as a back up, because he's not 100, and at this point is a liability. You only use him as a panic option.

I think Romo comes back earlier than ESPN expects but that Dak plays fairly well in the interirm. I think he goes into the season in 2017 as the starter, and then when he misses time next year, that's when the switchover happens for good.

Yep..

Unless Dak completely bombs he will take over at some point before his 4 year contract is up.

It would be cool if Romo would take a paycut and stick around as his backup but he'll go to some other team and probably end his career like a Favre, Manning, or Kurt Warner.

That seems way more realistic to me than anything being permanently determined this year.

I don't think Dak thinks this his his job to lose...not at all.

Even if they amazingly went 6-2...that'd be winning at the same (or slightly worse) clip that Dallas won with Romo both in 2014 (12-3) and in 2015 ( 3-1 )

Dak has already acknowledged several times that it's Romo's team and he's trying to do as go do as he can until he returns. Exactly what he should say at this very early stage.
You guys are projecting your dreams to be rid of Romo and get going with Dak fulltime onto the Dallas players.

fwiw
Romo said that he was at Dak's disposal to use as he needed, and that he feels good that we can win games with Dak.

I almost added that 5th option, but it was getting crowded.

Probably my runner up option actually
