Video: Will McClay Interviews

Not at all. But if you want to push that angle thats up to you. He is just not going to pull a Jerry Jones and say the kid is starting already. Smart move by saying he has to earn it.

Exactly......... also about earning the respect of his teammates.

Love how every interview with cowboys management at 105.3 starts with lots of praise and bootlicking. They are such @$$ kissers.

Gonna guess he doesn't say...."I'm the real GM, Jerry and his kid don't do anything. They pay me to do the job that they claim to do. "

Untrue, Jerry and his kid take the blame. Any picks the Cowboys made will be their fault but any player who has success will be Will's.

Without him, just imagine how dreadful it might be . . . :omg:

Really now????

26 years and counting.....

It's not been very good with him.

Maybe it would be worse, but zero deep playoff runs is still zero deep playoff runs.

I'm in the camp of, if he's so great, then why can't we win back to back divisional titles? Why do we take turns with Philly, Washington, and NY? Why can't we build on successful seasons? We went 12-5 last year. Does anyone think we go 12-5 or better this year? If we draft great then they must draft great also since we're in a constant rotation with them.

Ooh. It's the guy who said T.J. Watt didn't fit but Taco Charlton did.

Personnel guru!

Somebody ask him if we found anymore steals like Reggie Robinson II.
he was right. rods scheme is predicated on long de. not a 3-4 rush lb now if rod was more creative he could. have figured out something for watt.

Yep, there's a certain amount of truth to that. Won't argue.

Great insight. I feel like there are too many fans that get too concerned about what these moves are going to do for the Cowboys THIS year or immediate return. This FO built a flawed roster, one sided and top heavy. And they had bad contracts on the books. In the last year in a half I feel like they have been able to maintain being competitive and have succeeded in restructuring the roster in a better way. Not only that, but getting rid of most of these bad contracts with veterans.

If they Cowboys can go 11-6 or 12-5 again and do it with younger talent then thats a win for me. This roster had lots of work to do. The defense is now legitimate and young and talented. This Oline isnt going to be rebuilt overnight. Fohenko, Ball, Steele, we just need one of these guys to hit. If two hit, great. Tyler Smith we now have another tough guard. Can Biadasz develop. The Cowboys have to hit on some of these guys. Mcgovern and Williams didnt work out.

WR room has basically been revamped. RB is next. To me I am looking at 2023 if things go well as being the beginning of having a window to be a true contender.
Have to agree with CowboyRoy, good assessment. No team ever hits on all their picks but every team goes into a draft expecting to hit on at least of couple of guys. In our case the class of 2021 is still up for grabs on if we hit on more than one (Parsons). There is hope that that Joseph pans out as a very good CB. Odighizuwa appears to be at the very least a rotation 3-tech and Bohanna made a small contribution while Quinn was teaching him. As to Wright, Fehoko, Golston, Ball and Mukuamu the jury is still out although here in 2022 is a time either to step up or they may not make the 3rd year. Training camp will be critical for all four of them.

The 2022 class is in no way sexy in terms of who they drafted but it was telling in that they needed to improve size, speed, and demeanor. The facts were in every game we lost including the one playoff game we not could not stop the run or could we get the running game going but the other team just bullied us in every phase of the game and then we just played scared. Although in some of those games we came back to make it a game, the fact is we still played scared and never thought we could come back and win. You could see it in how they blocked, tackled, and even never really committing to what the calls were on offense or defense. Attitude and demeanor have to change. Finesse is over, you have to punish the other team from beginning to end. That is not to say finesse plays aren't good, we just when we do make those plays, they need to get up and give the appearance that we can do anything we want whenever we want.

He could have had several GM jobs throughout the last few years.....that fact that he stays says a lot.
I’m not sure what it says beyond the fact he’s very well paid and doesn’t take the heat directly as a GM.

Will is basically doing what he loves without being held directly accountable as a GM. And probably why he’s content to remain here.

He scouts out the talent watching all the film and let’s our dysfunctional ownership make final decision. Easy peasy.

And Cheapskate Son deals with the contracts . Sign me up . Will has a cake walk.

Will McClay = Overrated.
Well if you wanna go back to the early 2000s when Jerry and his drunk old buddies were basically calling the shots.....I kinda don't, and it's not easy to find a qualified GM who doesn't want to actually hold the title that the owners ego currently holds.

Remember who we have to thank for bringing Will on board and when our drafts begin to take more of a normal shape this era under our dysfunctional ownership .

I think it's a good idea to use Dak to help scout. I went into the draft wanting fat boys to beef up on both sides of the ball and they did that. We'll see how it works out.
