Will Rod Marinelli sign an extension?

It's entirely possible that the entire coaching staff is gone when the 2015 season starts so I think Jerry is taking a wait and see approach right now when it comes to coach's contracts.

Yup....what's the point of an extension when this team falls flat on it's head and a new head coach will need to be hired? That's just more money being thrown out the window. And you know a new head coach is gonna want to bring in his own people. No way any head coach is gonna want to hang on to this mis-match set of coaches.

If we go 8-8, Garrett should be ousted as HC and Marinelli will be offered that title in his stead. He'd then accept and be given a new contract in that capacity. In the event we get a playoff berth in 2014, Garrett will likely remain as HC and Marinelli would be offered an extension as DC. Kiffin may or may not remain and Marinelli would have to decide his future, whether it be here or somewhere else. Flip a coin on that one.

I think he signs an extension. He's not leaving if we make the playoffs. Which this division is wide open.

If we make the playoffs, the whole staff gets an extension. We are not in Super Bowl or bust mode. If the trainee makes it, he gets an extension. Probably a healthier one than he deserves.

Are you unsure of what team we are talking about and who owns it?

That will just mean that coach inherits what the boss says he will.

Well then his pool of candidates will be coordinators with no prior head coaching experience or failed head coaches desperate for another chance. No quality candidate with skins on the wall will accept something like that.

So now Marinelli is head coach material? This dude is becoming more legendary by the minute. More so than Matt Johnson even.

And who said there would be a skins on the wall candidate?

Do we need a new stadium? Which one of the skin on the wall candidate is getting raked over in a bad divorce and needs cash badly?

If Garrett gets it, we probably see Holmgren. And Brandon Weeden, a player he picked at QB.

Holmgren would be that skins on the wall candidate. He would never accept being forced into taking on any of Garrett's staff.

I think if (when) Garrett fails this year (not his fault), Jerry might get a little desperate with the clock ticking on Romo. He might go down the Holmgren route and give a little more power to his next head coach.

I said might. This is about as positive as I get with this team.

Being a few years out of coaching and having left Cleveland in a state of shambles, I question if Holmgren would have that much bravado left.

Heres my thoughts. Right or wrong its just a thought.
I think the Jones have a 'what if' plan for both the good what if and the bad what if.
Good what if. What if the Cowboys do well with the 2014 team? Then they will resign the coaching staff to extensions.
Bad what if. What if the Cowboys do bad with the 2014 team? Then Jones can let most everyone walk without firing them from a current contract and owing them. Plus bigger cap space to rebuild for the new staff next offseason and most likely higher draft spots.
May be a big part of cleaning out the high price contracts recently.
Who knows for sure though. But what if...?

At the rate Dallas has been shuffling their OCs and DCs, who knows if he'll even be offered one.

Since his last injury, I haven't seen anyone promoting Matty J
