Will The Yankees and Mets Win More Than 80 Games This Year?

Well for the first three games the Yankees looked like they did last year... old, boring and the front 2/3 of their starting rotation has big question marks.

I'd make the argument that the entire Yankees rotation is a question. Tanaka has lost significant velocity which raises the question of if he's injured. Pineda can't be trusted at all. Sabathia you hope is a LAIE. Eovaldi is a live arm who might some day figure out how to pitch. Warren is a conversion project right now, see how he transitions back to being a starter. Luis Severino could be interesting as a replacement for the rotation.

The offense is also a house of sticks. Teixeira, ARod, Ellsbury, Headley, Beltran, and McCann are the core of the offense. All are over 30. I'd bet against the majority of them breaking 140 games.

Its a team that could be good if basically they have absurd levels of luck with health. Its a team that could be terrible if they don't.

Oh I agree. This could end up being a 70 win club. And maybe that's what they need. The front office seems to be in a "fog" the last couple of years.

So much AL East beef in here haha. That being said, I'm with you WPB! One of my good friends is a die hard O's fan all the way from SoCal. He used to sport is his Brian Roberts proudly years ago lol.

That is why I said that they would be the 2nd best team in NY :D

Mets have the pitching, it is their offense that is the question...............

Brian Roberts was the one thing we had to cheer about for a few years there. I feel bad for him that he didnt get to stick around for some success, although he does have a nice bank acct to enjoy.

As much as I hate to see Boston sitting at 4-1 I must admit seeing the Skanks at 1-4 isnt bad. Not bad at all.

The aren't good right now. They've led exactly 1 inning so far this season.

That being said, if I wasn't a Yanks fan I wouldn't be hoping for a complete collapse because that will result a very aggressive offseason for the team.

On the other hand if the teams ends up like 84-78, you won't see the same level of "team-gutting".

It would be like Jerry thinking "only one or two players away" syndrome.

I guess we'll have to see if the sons have as much desire to win as the old man.

I would think just a little pride combined with the resources they have will prompt them to go big if they go bad this season.

This isn't the late 60's and early 70's when CBS owned the team.

It seems to make sense to me and you, but often times the heirs dont have the passion and desire like the old man. They didnt have to work for what they have.

True.

But from their comments, losing seems to sting. And I'm willing to bet a bad losing season is going to sting an awful lot. And it will force change. They aren't going to sit back and become a sub-.500 club for several seasons.

OUCH!

The Yanks may not be better than Baltimore this season, but they certainly gave them a good "upper-cut" last night.

Good teams that lead by 2 runs in the 7th don't lose on pinch-hit Grand Slam.

They do when Tommy Hunter doesnt get the call and with the count throws his straight as an arrow no movement fastball down Broadway belt high. When his fastball has no movement he is prone to giving up the big fly.

Its still early and the bullpen hasnt fared well. No time for panic yet.

I agree. There is no time for panic.

But the division will probably come down to a very close race. And a blown game or two along the way could be the difference maker.

Yep. They all count the same no matter the month.

Im sure the other 4 teams will have some blown as well.

Maybe losing a few too many series could be the difference.

I think Girardi is the xfactor here.
His managing will keep it close to wild card.

If he could have scored some runs down stretch last year. We get the wild card.

Agreed.

This offense has felt very "un-Yankee-like" over the past couple seasons.

I was watching the Yankee/Oriole game tonight and I saw the Yankees were soon having Brent Gardner "Bat Day" at the stadium.

I thought, "You've got to be kidding me? Freaking "Bat Day" for a guy who hit two-fifty-something last season with 17 homeruns? Really?"

It would be like having "Bat Day" for Roy White back in the 70's.

I don't know what bothers me more, this lousy Yankee offense or that offense is so crummy in baseball overall.
