Will this be Dak's best season?

So the defense needs to hold every opponent under 10 points a game to give Dak a chance?

It's going to take more than just the defense stepping up, the offense still has to do their part too. I'm sure you realize what happens if the offense can't move the ball and is constantly going 3 and out - the defense gets worn down from being on the field too much. We all know what happens when the offense is struggling. We've seen that show over and over.

The defense understandably gets a ton of the blame most of the time, but there's too sides to the equation and people seem to ignore that too much and only blame one side or the other.
Team game. Everyone must do their part.

This forum has forgotten that the great almighty Aikman had the number one offense line and the number one defense and the best running back to date behind him. when he didn't have those luxuries, he lost!! Plain and simple. His fist year without those luxuries, he had a wopping 1 and 15 season!!!!! After the melt down, he lost as well, and we all blame Jerry for firing Jimmy. If the quarter back has that much to do with winning, why couldn't Aikman carry the team?
Great points.

Dak is a very good quarterback but he is not elite. He is not "generational". He is not a "gifted" passer or runner.

He can help win games but he does not have the ability to carry a team on his shoulders when they are performing poorly and struggling in multiple areas.

If this offense cannot run the ball and Dak has to throw more than 34 times then there is about a 70% probability that the Cowboys will lose.

If the defense cannot hold the opponent to under 24 points then there is a 71% probability that the Cowboys will lose.

Both numbers are based on past performance.

Similar to last season, the offensive line will be starting at least one rookie along with two 2nd year starters. Throw in a new offense and O-line coach and it may be the latter part of the season before they become a force.

The trick will be keeping Dak healthy in the meantime.

Last season the Cowboys had the worse running attack in the NFL when you look at the combination of average yards per carry, TD's scored and total yardage.

This year, many are expecting the running game to be vastly improved but I have never heard of so much expectation being placed at the feet of a rookie 5th round draft pick since Herschel Walker and Blue is not that guy.

Tony Romo's best season was 2014 when he led the entire league in passing. It is no coincidence that it was also the year that DeMarco Murray set the new season rushing record for the Cowboys.

Some say that the team goes as Dak goes but I believe the opposite and the numbers seem to indicate the same.

Dak will have his best season if the running attack is efficient and consistent, there are few injuries overall, and the defense returns to its old ways of takeaways and other big plays.

Unfortunately, Dak’s best season has come and gone. His best came when he was physically healthy and injury free. The years have taken a toll on him and he is not as mobile, or elusive as before. Plus he is not the type to work in the offseason to make himself better mentally.

Most good DC know how to attack him and know his limitations and weaknesses. I’m shocked that Jerry would pay top dollar to a player on the decline. Then again, I’m not shocked since we are talking about Jerry the dunce.

what a strange post

Say what you want about the Cowboys chances if getting back to the playoffs or getting over the playoff hump.

Say what you want about having a new coaching staff or potential weaknesses at DT, OT or CB.

If I'm Dak Prescott, I'm looking at this season as a chance be my best. I've got 2 of the best WRs in the game. I've got weapons like Turpin and Blue with speed to burn. I've got a coach Schotty that isn't going to let me abandon the running game. I've got the best interior OL protection I've had since my rookie season. All I have to do is get that ball out of my hands quick and stay healthy.

Can he do that? If he can and the team can stay healthy, he has every chance to have his best season,

What say you?

Who has done that? What is this, degree of difficulty? He can't win with both his hands and legs tied together, he's not that kind of QB!

Like most winning teams have some combination of those factors. Only Cowboys fans believe the QB has to plug every leak

Not likely. Could it be? Sure. A lot could happen, but the odds are against it being his best season

Like every other WB, he needs a few people to DO THEIR JOBS. Our porous run defense must be fixed. Opposing teams ramming the ball down our throat running eats up way too much time on the clock. Next, he needs an effective RB to make the play action game viable. If he gets the help he needs, he can absolutely ball out this season.

Dak isn’t unique in his needs. Mahomes has had effective run games and has benefited from having an all-world tight end. Josh and Lamar are threats to run themselves, and that takes a defender out of the secondary.

It’s not just on Dak. It’s on the whole team. Sure do like Pickens, though, and I think Dak will have a solid OL to play behind. Before Pickens, the O/U for games won was just 7.5. I grabbed the over as soon as we traded for Pickens. I think we make the playoffs as a WC team. Our division is very tough.

This is spot on. Setting aside his many points the defense gives up, teams that score 28+ on offense win ~85% of their games.

No QB in the league can operate in a vacuum. Give Dak Patrick’s team and he wins 10+ every season. Give Patrick Dak’s team from last year and they still miss the playoffs.

What?

Jeff Hostetler won it? Won what?

I never said Dak couldn't help he Cowboys win a Super Bowl. I only said that he would need the help from his team to win it.

But.....Jeff Hostetler won it?

You might want to give just a smidgeon of the credit the #1 ranked defense that year led by Lawrence Taylor.

There was also their highly effective running game with a stacked RB squad that included Ottis Andeson, Rodney Hampton, Dave Megget and Maurice Carthon.

In fact, it was Ottis Anderson and not Jeff Hostetler that was named SB MVP that year.

To summarize, you completely proved my point.

The man got hurt running and not being touched. He's definitely not going to have his best season. He'll choke again. But I think he'll be good enough to help the team make it to the playoffs before full choking commences.

If he can't run without blowing out a hamstring it won't matter what his arm does.

Put it this way, if the offense has to rely on Dak Prescott passing you to a win it's a guarantee that the Cowboys are going to lose

The question now is, will he even make it to even get to be able to choke "again" in the post season? There's that problem now (bad legs) PLUS the perennial Deer In Headlight choke job. The ever manifesting hopeium that comes with a new Dallas Cowboys season never fails though.
