Speculation on my part, but seems to me we should look for Lance to get some short yardage duty with regularity.

And too, I think this probably makes certain that McKeon makes the team, and will line-up with some regularity as a backfield blocker.
Lol, no! Not without significant injury to DaK and Rush and only till they can get Grier back in!

When Dak stopped using his legs/feet to make plays in his first few seasons is when his game broke down. OK.... I know he got hurt. give it a rest and cool your jets before the obvious comments attacking my posts. IMO this is a dam good move. Anyone that has watched the way he plays in the playoffs would agree that he will not take this team to the SB even with a star studded defense giving his propensity of just throwing the ball to the opponent at the exact time that would kill the win. Friking GUT PUNCH X infinity. We really don't know here in the forum and as fans that maybe coaching was more part of the problem or not. Your on notice right now Mr. gotta have 40 mil a year. Totally putting DC in hostage mode regarding building a great team.....Thanks. Yes again I'm aware that we missed the damn window in his first few years with the red headed beast clapper as HC. In the end we want to not only play in the SB but win the dam thing right? that's what the hell I want. Goy Boys......Good move IMO. ok haters attack. You know damn well I'm right here. Time to move on from this. You all have been saying this too so don't come at me like someone took your puppy dog. Peace!

(Sidebar: Gotta say, I'm a little surprised at the near unanimity that's recoiling at the thought. It's not even original with me, but something I read by someone here or on Twitter that struck me as compelling and reasonable... and that it deserved it's own thread here. Dunno. But if anyone's comfortable being in the minority, it might be me. :D )

Well, it's good that I have a little company in taking my position... :) ...

They need to study your brain and how you form conclusions.

What, we don't have enough interceptions and fumbles?

No..

This year will be about learning the system and his technique.

Building his confidence back up is key too.
No more drink for you.
When did the Cowboys chaps turn into remedial schools and confidence-building centers???
Like we can afford to babysit this wasted draft pick (2021 and 2023).

I don’t see Lance getting significant snaps this season unless Dak were to get injured and Cooper Rush doesn’t play well. If we just throw Lance in there to see what he can do it could completely destroy his confidence. He has to learn our system. Backup QBs don’t get much work during the regular season, so we’re going to have to be patient with him. Maybe the Cowboys could come up with a package to give him an opportunity to use his legs, possibly in the redzone. That would be one way to get him on the field this season.

This is a long play not short. Lance was acquired as a future developmental hedge.I like the trade but not for the reasons too many here are thinking.

Some points:
  • Trey Lance has lots of RAW talent - emphasis on raw. He’s NOT ready to play as a starting QB yet. If he was, the niners wouldn’t have traded him.
  • Kyle Shanahan is an excellent offensive mind and developer of QBs. If he felt Lance was ready and capable NOW, he would absolutely still be a 49er.
  • The Cowboys acquired TL for the long term possibilities he could become long term. NOT the short term.

But he's an awful QB.
False. He's not yet a good QB, but he's also not an awful one.

But that's beside the point here. You don't need even a good QB for the role that some of us (thank you, Fox Sports writer, whoever you are... it's "us" for certain now :) ) envision.

The 49ers gave up the farm for him and gave up on him so fast for Mr. Irrelevant and Sam Darnold. Lance isn't even as good as Rush.

He probably won't see game snaps unless we are up 55-0 in the third quarter.

If Dak or Rush is hurt, he could suit up on game day as the #2 QB. Then there are three ways he gets in the game. First, at the end of a blowout. Second, the starter also gets injured. Third, if it's Cooper who's starting because Dak is hurt, I could actually see them building in some plays for him.
