Will Trey Lance get significant snaps in 2023? Count me with those who think so

Hey Stash, I am hoping the guy does great as I always do for any Cowboy player, but I have not seen it on the field when it comes to Lance. I really do hope I am wrong, but the proof is not out there.......yet.

I do however think that he is an upgrade from Greer even if the upgrade percentage is minimal at this point.
LOL At first I thought you were talking about Mazi..

Better hope TL works out.

Otherwise, Dak steals another 200 million in cap.

We’ll end up with a scrub OL like Seattle did.
There is no way they don't pay Dak. I have no desire for them to pay any non elite QB max dollars but that's what this team does.

On one hand all the optimism refreshes my belief in the human desire and hope for a better tomorrow. On the other hand, I weep for logical thinking.

Speculation on my part, but seems to me we should look for Lance to get some short yardage duty with regularity.

And too, I think this probably makes certain that McKeon makes the team, and will line-up with some regularity as a backfield blocker.
I don't see a strong chance of either of these things. No reason to think Dak isn't as good in short yardage situations, and even if they used LAnce like this it's not like it would be every short yardage situation.

As for McKeon, he isn't the only guy that could line up as a backfield blocker, plus Ferguson, Schoonmaker & Hendershot are higher on the depth chart than McKeon, so either they keep 4 TEs, McKeon goes to the practice squad, or McKeon gets cut

Sure, Teams always could have carried 3 QBs on the active roster but no team now will with how the new QB 3 rule works.
Was not sure how the rule is. I thought they were allowed to have 3 active and 3rd don’t count towards the 53 man game roster.

You need to think of 2 different rosters. QB3 can not be carried as a practice squad player and must instead make the initial 53-man roster (elevated players can not be used in this capacity). On game day the active roster is reduced to 48 players. The QB 3 doesn't have one of the 48 Game Day roster. If QB3 is included in the Game Day 48 player roster (dumb move) he can play at any time.

Wow. Crappy rule. I thought they just allowed a 3rd QB active on game day and is not included in the 53. Lol. Never mind.

Nah. Maybe mop up duty. I think Rush is still the QB². He is 5-1 as a starter.

Honest to God, I think he will.

Allegedly, this was a Jerry move. McCarthy and the coaching staff were left in the dark about it.

And Jerry has always played favorites with his guys.

I'm not saying Lance deserves to play. I'm saying that I've seen the last decade or two of Cowboys football and know how these things go.

Which is why it is inevitable.

He's also, consistently, a prolific passer.
I like Dak, especially as a human being. And I agree, he is a very good QB….but until he quits laying an egg in the playoffs, the masses and media will ride him hard. Leading the league in interceptions is a no no too….and didn’t he miss 5 games, and still led the league. He can do better…..but if I can be honest, I hope he starts doing better after game one this season.

Agreed.

But argue with yourself a little more... (a) why are you subjecting QB1 to that over the course of 17 games... and especially when (b) you have another option that is not only as good, but who is an even better runner overall...?

This isn't that novel in the 2023 version of the NFL. We've just not been in a position to employ it. Now we theoretically will be. May take a few weeks, though, for McCarthy to get comfortable with Lance. Possibly months. But the opportunity is there.
