I'm not sure how it was for you guys in Texas but since concussions have become a major part of football, it seems like medical and administration has all of the say in whether or not a kid can play. And they are very much risk aversive.Piss ant coaches don't have any say.
The whole offense falls apart without him at this point. In particular Zeke and the run game.
The dynamic in Dallas is the medical staff tells Jerry (as "GM") and Garrett/McCarthy. If the medical staff doesn't outright rule the player out and if it's a named-player, Jerry decides. If it's roster guy 25-53, Garrett/McCarthy decides. If it's a big enough named player (Zack, Dak, Zeke, etc), then Jerry asked the player if he wants to go or not and 99% of players are going to say yes. Dak probably should not have played Week 17 last year. The team didn't even officially list the injury for that game, but you could tell Dak's shoulder and throws were not right.I get that, but Im assuming the training staff says he can play although he may not be 100%. At that point MM says lets go. Would ownership veto the head coach? Hell, Jerry wants to win now as badly as anyone. Maybe Stephen steps in and says no let him recover to 100%. Its tought for me to anticipate what our crazy FO will do.
I see no reason to bring him back this season unless 1) he is fully healthy and 2) the Cowboys somehow win a few games and have a chance at the playoffs.
Even then, I would not bring him back personally.
He is way too important to the future of the team to risk a more serious injury playing a position he will not be playing after this year.
Good way to find out what you have in Connor McGovern (age 23), Tyler Biadasz (age 23) , Brandon Knight (age 23), and Terence Steele (age 23).I wouldn't. Let the depth get the snaps. Maybe they learn something.

For me, it's not about tanking or giving up. I played sports most of my life and I fully believe you should play to win, period.
However, given the Cowboys have only won 3 games and only have 5 games remaining, I see no reason to risk further injury, especially more serious injury, playing one of our best players out of position at this point.
That said, if they are going to play Martin at guard, I would be okay with bringing him back this year.
He's already on the ballot + he didn't have a season ending surgery so they'll elect him to play in late January with no issues.I wonder what this means for a potential Pro Bowl berth. Can't be good, but II don't think the late games would matter anyway.
The NFL site is already taking votes.
I believe he had tweeked a hamstring or a quad the week he was switched to OT, he simply reaggrivated it.I still don't know what's actually wrong yet.
They're different. Belicheat has a lot more say than most. They are not equal.I'm assuming you're saying there are differences between coaches even though they may have the exact same title? ...or are you saying all coaches are piss ants in the hierarchy?
We have protocols and testing. But, when the training staff of doctor clears them, they play. The question is should Martin play when he's cleared? Hell yeah, he should and I bet he would want too.I'm not sure how it was for you guys in Texas but since concussions have become a major part of football, it seems like medical and administration has all of the say in whether or not a kid can play. When I played, the Head Coach told you whether or not you were okay to play, and you were almost always okay to play. Bud Kilmer style.
Football players play football. Not sure that's always the best decision, tho.Calf strain was the last I heard. Its a reagrevation. Forget our logic. If the training staff says he can play you can bet MM is going to get him out there.
