The Ravens and Bills agreed to a trade Thursday that will send running back Willis McGahee to Baltimore in exchange for the team's third and seventh-round picks in this year's draft, along with the Ravens' third-round pick in 2008, league sources tell ESPN.com's Michael Smith.

Well, NOW the bills will be hoping Peterson slips- or NOW they may be looking at using those picks to move up.

I'd love to be a young RB running behind Jonathon Ogden.

I think the Ravens upgraded over Jamal Lewis.

Absolutely. McGahee is not the player he was at Miami. He has never fully regained his burst. And Baltimore still doesnt run block very well, so that wont help his future.

It's a toss up.

McGahee's career average is barely 4.0. He is NOT the guy he was before that knee injury. He didn't even crack 1000 yads last year, and it's not ALL about the OL. THough it wasn't great, Athony Thomas was FAR more effective for the Bills last year than McGahee was. Bad vision, bad decision and doent' hit the hole hard.

The Big thing is.... McGahee is a cancer. "Rosey" is telling him he's top 3 in the NFL. Yet, he doens't know the plays. The Bills would send in the play and then someone was suppsoed to tell him what he's supoosed to do. He NEVER knew his blocking assignments or blitz pickups, and apparently spent more time in meetings sending text msgs than listening.

So 2-3rds and a 7th for a guy you didn't want anymore, has never been what he was supposed to, and is a bad character guy (he also has had 3 kids by 3 women in the past year).... i don't know if they were ripped off.

and aside fromOgden.. the Ravens OL is so-so

Draft point wise it's equal to about McGahee for the 2th overall pick in the 3rd round of the draft. (260ish points)

Edited to show math:

29th pick in the 3rd round is worth about 128 points. The 29th pick in the 7th round is worth about 4 points. If they get the 29th pick next year also it totals (128*2) + 4 = 260pts. The second overall pick in the third round is valued at 260pts.

funny, if they did this a week earlier the Bills could have signed back T Henry, the young productive back they dumped for this supposed next-coming.

basically 2 3rd rounders for McGahee behind that mammoth line, the Ravens have upgraded over Jamal Lewis, a small trade down could easily get back one of those 3rds, personally i like McGahee, i think he just wanted out of Buffalo....which i dont blame him.:starspin

Lots of things have been leaked lately about McGahee; his paternity suits, supposedly not knowing plays, etc. Something you did not hear about untill the last month or so. Certainly designed to lower the price someone would pay for him; not that anyone could get much for a player on the last year of his contract.

Generally a pick in next year's draft is valued as roughly one round lower. So the third next year would be points equivalnet to a 4th this year. Nice to see the evaluation laid out.

And I think the picks were the better part of the deal. Buffalo hasn't struck me as the best at player management, but this appears to be in their favor. The Ravens have a 'win now' thing going. Still, Ozzie Newsome is a pretty sharp GM....
