Wimbley signs for 5 Years/35m - Spencer Blueprint?

That matches up with Spencer's deal.

Spencer is the better player and he got $8.8M/yr

Wimbley is not quite as good and he get's $7M/yr

Interesting Ahmad Brooks got 6/44.5 17.5 guaranteed if im not mistaken. Lets see what the guaranteed portion is for Wimbley and try to work out something with Spencer.

Edit: Just read 13.5 mil guaranteed.

I disagree that Spencer is a better player. This is a passing league and Wimbley has better athleticism and better metrics in coverage than Spencer. Wimbley also has much better sack production and this is despite never playing with a premier pass rusher who requires constant double teams.

Dallas has dropped the ball on a very reasonable deal for a proven young vet pass rusher.

We now have to strike gold in the draft to improve the defense or bring in a vet pass rush specialist likely at 5M/yr in addition to Spencer's franchise tag cost which is $14Mish for next year alone - more than the guaranteed value of Wimbley's contract.

Our FO is seriously flawed.

It'll be interesting to see how Spencer and Wimbley perform over the next few years as it will give a good example of management's ineffectiveness in pro scouting (ditto for Livings versus Mathis).

Jerry and Stephen prove once again that they are in over their heads.

I hope the scouts pull out another great draft for us because we really need one.

Spencer's "deal" really isn't a deal... not as in the true sense of a negotiatiated agreement.

I think if Spencer/Cowboys agreed to something long term it would be in the $7 mil per season range.

But you're also saying that Jason Garrett, Rob Ryan and Jud Garrett are in over their heads...

And I'm not sure that's accurate.

Badly. We're going to have to get lucky at either interior OL or Front 7 outside of the draft imo.

I got a bad feeling though that if Decastro or Glenn isn't our 1st pick than what you see is what youll get with the OL.

I don't think we take Glenn at all. While he maybe a good player, he doesn't fit the mold of that the Cowboys seem to be doing with the OL.

If DeCastro is there, we could take him. Otherwise I think it's almost an automatic we take someone for the front 7.

this draft is deep with OGs. Brooks, Zietler, and Silatolu are three OGs that can be had in the 2nd round that can come in and start day one.

I think the Cowboys will go with either a center Kronz or a guard Zietler or Brooks in round 2.

Round 1 is probably a front-7 player.

What is this mold everyone is talking about?

Last year we started Dockery and Holland, going small was seen as a failure and Jerry even said that him self saying you have to have some bulk and a anchor in the middle. I don't think getting a big OG that can move is against anything Dallas is doing. They just signed a OG that is over 320.

13.5 guaranteed and 11.5 million in 1st year compensation. I'll bet is is just a little below Brooks. Brooks deal had a bunch of deescalators that made 44 million unlikely according to Adam.

I agree, Zeitler can also play Center. Silatou and Brooks both played OT in college which Dallas scouts and coaches seem to like.

I like Decastro and would be happy with the pick at 14, but if we get another good front 7 player and pass on DeCastro it wouldn't be in the end of the world.

We are moving towards a smaller more athletic OL and a zone blocking scheme. Glenn is mammoth mauler type at just shy of 350lbs.

are we moving towards that. Why do you say we are. Have you seen the two players they just signed. Did you see who was playing OG at the end of the year.

I don't think we are moving towards a true zone blocking OL. I thinnk last year we tried it because we had small OL. But if they can get big power OGs Jerry will be all for it.

Glenn might be big but he can move and get to the 2nd level. Brooks is a big man too but can also move.

Spencer is a Better player ? In what world ? Madden 11?
Did you read strums take on Spencer ?
Unflattering at best .

Konz won't make it to round 2. Heard Baltimore and Green Bay really like him.
He will be late 1st round.

But he didn't have the athleticism of Brooks, who has been mentioned as someone the Cowboys have interest in.

I haven't heard any conversation about Glenn and the Cowboys.

I just wonder why Dallas didn't go after Wimbley then.

I mean if anyone knows who is better it should be Matt Eberflus who spent two years with Wimbley and one with Spencer. Also Ryan who spent a year with them both.

Sorry but I trust Eberfus and Ryan over Strum.

If they wanted him I thnk they could have gotten them. We could have dropped the tag on SPencer and sign Wimbley to that deal.

It wasnt that the small guys in the middle wont work. We just had no quality in the middle and as of right now we still have no quality.
