(WIP Radio) Dallas will get their heads handed to them in the Super Bowl

Man, this is a tough call.

I saw Brady complete something like 5-6 straight passes to Welker against the Steelers in one drive. He is extremely quick and runs very crisp, disciplined routes.

When we played them, a couple of times it seemed like members in the secondary were confused on some of the coverages against him.

I will just defer to Wade Phillips on this one, that NE offense is extremely difficult to stop and there should be alot of sleepless nights if both teams make it to the Super Bowl.

I would be interested in looking back to see what the Eagles and Ravens did on defense to slow the Pats down. I only watched small portions of both games, but both teams hung with them. Not sure if the Steelers tried the same things and the Pats simply adjusted.

My feeling is that we would need to play disciplined ball with few penalties and a hefty running game to eat up time and keep Brady and company on the bench. Our best defense is having our offense on the field with long, time consuming drives.

From what I saw both Philly and Balt were consistently in Brady's face.

Our best shot at beating them will be to avoid a shootout, play smashmouth football, and ram the ball down their D's throat. Clock eating drives that end in a score. If we can do this, by halfway through the 3rd qtr. their D will be practically useless while ours will be rested & still capable of pressuring Brady.

We can beat this team. The Ravens gave us the blueprint.

True but Pitt tried to blitz and just could not get to Brady. Even though both Balt and Philly were able to cause problems the Pats still scored 31 and 27 points in these 2 games.

I know one thing, a strong running game has been the key.

I loved the comment by Emmitt Smith (who was fumbling his lines once again yesterday) when he stated, "The Ravens ran the ball on the Patriots and made them love it".

The Eagles were able to generate huge pressure and it got so bad that at one point they forced NE into multiple 3 and outs, drawing the ire of the fickle NE fans in the stands.

Sure, but is this because the Pats adjusted with some sort of max protection package for Brady as Pitt tried to blitz? If the Pats adjusted based on what happened the prior 2 weeks, then there is no blueprint.

I agree smash mouth style but I think you also have to be willing to setup big plays down field off the running attack. Raven gave somewhat of a blue print but as I mentioned above the Pats still put up 27 points on them.

I agree. I think when dealing with the Pats or any quality team you must be willing to mix things up. You can't sit in zones all day but you also can't run blitz after blitz. I think you need to give different looks and pick and choose when you take chances both offense and defensively. I think if you get too 1 dimensional with good teams they will find ways to beat you.

Pitt could not convert in the Red Zone, went away from the run for a bit at times and got beat by two huge pass plays. That Flea Flicker put them away. That stupid safety biting on the play action was unbelievable. Those 2 plays and the Steelers inability to convert in the Redzone were the difference between what Balt and Philly did versus what Pitt tried to do IMO.

Oh, and holding them to 27 or 31 is what I am hoping for anyway. I think we can win with holding them to that.

An excellent concise explanation of why the Steelers got lit up taken from another board:

the Steelers do not run much man and press man with their blitzes. They are predominately a zone blitzing team. The Eagles and Ravens ran a great deal of man blitzes and beat the WR's up at the line.

Many times in the Steelers game the Slot was uncovered and you can do that when you run zone, but Brady tore it up because the Safety can't get down fast enough or the linebacker can't stretch wide fast enough or they combo route the corner sitting in the flat. The only way to slow the Patriots down is to go Press Man and Blitz. If you zone blitz alot, Brady will kill you. He finds the open man way to easily.

Lots of pre-mature e-jack-u-lation going on around here! :D

Can we just hope the Cowboys get to the SuperBowl first? What is that saying about the chickens, counting, and eggs?

Come on, citizens! Let's worry about the eagles, then the Panthers, then the Skins...then the...

;)

Hell, how does anyone know that if the Cowboys WERE to go to the SuperBowl that it would be against the Patriots* ?

Tap on the brakes here a little fellas and let's get though the playoffs first.:starspin

They are at it again.

I just got back from break and turned on WIP.

I guess there was a Philly Cheesesteak Restaurant that put up a sign that said, "Only english spoken here".

They are saying that these restaurants need to have similar signs that say, "No Cowboys fans serverd here". One place they said should really do it is a place called Little Nicky's.

This is a true quote, I kid you not, "This city (Philly) wants to ban Trans Fat, Smoking, Cockroaches and Cowboys fans". :)

These guys are extremely bitter, it truely is amazing.

Right now the guys on Philly talk radio are worshiping the New England Patriots.

Talking about how the Patriots will cover the spread in all of their games.

Furthermore, they said that the Cowboys were going to get their heads handed to them when we get to the Super Bowl.

Two things:

1. It must suck to have to worship teams that are winning like the Patriots because your team sucks.

2. It must equally suck when the only bad thing you can say about a team is that they will make it to the Super Bowl, but will lose.

These guys crack me up.
You and me both....:star:

It would depend on how they lost though.

But like you said, I wouldn't be too mad about it.
Dallas has to win all of the playoff games, likewise New England before we make it a SB lock.

Like the old saying goes anything can happen in the NFL.

I doubt it very much.

Welker's got 93 catches and 8 TDs this year and is Brady's go-to guy for keeping the chains moving until he can get Moss or Stallworth open deep. What makes you think the Jags dime CB would be on the field in Dallas any more than he is in Jacksonville? Much less shut Welker down where the starters the guy has faced all year cannot?
