With an uncapped year possibly on the horizon...

Name your top 3 positions you would like to address in free agency for the Cowboys and your #1 player of choice at that position. I know it's early to be thinking about it but it's also a very distinct, possibility with the type of owner/GM that we have. Okay, so here it goes.

#1 priority is Left Tackle: release Flozell Adams and sign Marcus McNeil

#2 priority is Safety: release Ken Hamlin and sign Antoine Bethea

#3 priority is Wide Receiver: let Sam Hurd go in FA and sign Steve Breaston

Other priority is Defensive Line: possibly sign DT Fred Robbins

Outside or inside? I would love for Jerry to get a young and talented inside linebacker incase Jason Williams doesn't pan out. LB Thomas Howard from OAK comes to mind and so does D'Quell Jackson from CLE. Brooking is doing a great job for us but we need to think about the future also.

I'd like to get a big name LT too, but I think the suits in Dallas are high on Free and really high on Brewster.

The worst thing that can happen to the NFL is a uncapped year.

I agree, but if we're going to make a run, it's gotta be 2010. Jerry hasn't opened the wallet in free agency since 2005 because of the cap. Without a cap, there's nothing stopping Jerry lol

I would take:
WR
Kevin Walter
Steve Breaston
Lee Evans
Brandon Marshall (?)

LB
D'Qwell Jackson
DeMeco Ryans

FS
Antoine Bethea
Darren Sharper

Some of these could help because of their veteran leadership.

Lee Evans would be a great fit.

No way Houston lets Ryans get away.

With our luck if we got McNeill his back condition would flare up.

Oh I think its great for the Cowboys as well as the Deadskins just like in baseball its great for the Yankees and Red Sox. But for the NFL as a whole? I'm not sure if its a good thing especially in this economy where you already have teams suffering through blackouts.

I haven't heard anything about Jerry hurting in the pockets because of this stadium.

i think breaston will want to start and with miles coming out party i dont see it happening, pretty sure they are already talking contract with marshall in denver. houston will franchise ryans, and jerry will give too much for too long to sharper so no thanks, ill take bethea though but i would rather adress it in the draft.

isnt derrick johnson a free agent this year? is nobody talking about him cause he is lost in obscurity in KC? i'm pretty sure he has posted a few 100 tackle seasons

How so? The NFL survived for how long till the cap was started

Like Chris So Cal said, there wasn't muich of a free agency in the years prior to the salary cap. What made the non salary cap era so good was because it allowed teams to pile up on players but from within by drafting. You could afford to pay your backup just as much as your starter so it made teams much deeper. You can't do that now because of how much players are paid and how deep the free agent classes are. No one is going to the Cleveland Browns. No one is going to the Jaguars. Its going to be the same teams contending every year. I just don't see any good coming from it. Yea its great for big market teams just like in baseball. But if you think its bad now where teams are getting blacked out? Imagine how bad its going to get if the NFL doesn't have a salary cap.

There may be something stopping him. Can't remember the specifics, but there will be limitations on FA spending a team can make.

Has to do with where you finish and I believe the restrictions are only on the top 8 teams. Unfortunately, this may not apply to us.

don't forget we have a list of our own free agents to deal with...

DeMarcus Ware
Marcus Spears
Miles Austin
Gerald Sensabaugh
Jason Hatcher
Sam Hurd
Stephen Bowen
Pat Watkins
Montrae Holland
Duke Preston
Pat McQuistan
Cory Procter

some websites are showing Jon Kitna as a potential free agent but I could have sworn we signed him to a 3-year extension after the trade.
