It was a big win against the Steelers, but we need to move on from it. Detroit is a better team and it’s going to be back to doom and gloom if we lose that game. Currently we’re 3-0 on the road and 0-2 at home. Our home field advantage has disappeared. The Cowboys had won 16 straight regular season games at home prior to the loss to the Saints in week two. Things have gone sour at home and now we’re underdogs to the Lions at home on Sunday. We have to get off to a fast start against the Lions. We can’t afford to let them jump on us early.
Detroit has an outstanding offense. Their defense gives up a lot.

I keep saying that the nfl is a week to week league. You can lose to anyone or beat anyone depending on preparation, injuries, sometimes officiating an when you catch a team. there are many factors that can determine an outcome. we are currently 3-2 and when all the preseason predictions came out may on this board had us losing to Cleveland and beating New Orleans. some had us losing to Pittsburgh after week 2.

the Ravens and giants are really the only prediction that has held true to most preseason posters. Look at the niners not many would have had them in 3rd place in their division after 5 games. 2 undefeated left one was expected the other not so much. So everyone who predicted the beat down from the lions you may be right or you could be wrong.

its hard to know what will transpire each week.

3-2 looks like the season is still on. 2-3 looking at 2-4 square in the face heading into bye begins to light the 3 Alarm dumpster fire.

3-3 we can handle and survive. And heading to 2-3 SF after the bye doesn’t look quite as daunting as before the season.

3-2 has kept playoff hopes alive. 2-4 facing 2-5 I’d argue season was basically over. And the collapse begins.

As always the NFL is a week by week league. You’re only as good as your last game. Right now we have our heads above water at 3-2. And not on life support yet.
Huge.

Will look even more important when we beat Detroit this Sunday. Have a feeling this one will be the Cowboys best game.

Then you look at their defense that gave up around 560 yards last week.
We could be looking at a shootout. We better hope our offense is clicking. I’m not real confident our defense is going to be able to hold up against them.

Anyone who recalls DET's visit to Arlington last year is aware the Lions may be playing with a little extra juice.

Assuming the Cowboys can take care of the football, I'm expecting a shootout.

For a real conversation, its going to be based on the injuries. Right now does it move the needle for the playoffs? No, Does it instill anything else? Nope, because the next loss will wipe it away and its not like we are looking at a winning streak. Do we have confidence we can beat teams that would normally beat us? Also no.

What does affect the win? The injuries and how the team does with the band aids, most of us feel for it the first week, after some losses and realization popped in, we saw the team for what it was. I do have 2 surprise wins on the final record, this was one of them. Now we see if MM can hold the team together.

I think CeeDee Lamb is one of the best receivers in the NFL, and I'm glad the Cowboys signed him to a long-term deal. But with that said, why is he seemingly disappearing in the third and fourth quarters? The difference in his numbers between the first half and second half are surprising. – Bob Wilkins/Santa Fe, NM

Kurt:
You're right, the differences are startling. Through five games, Lamb has been targeted 25 times in the first half and hauled in 21 receptions for 353 yards and two touchdowns. That's an impressive 84 percent catch rate for an average of 16.8 yards per grab. In the second half, though, those numbers plummet to just four catches off 16 targets for 25 yards and no scores, marks of 25 percent and 6.3 yards, respectively. So what's going on? Yes, there have been times when maybe Lamb's frustration gets the best of him, but I think the real reason is opposing defenses are just dead set on not letting the Cowboys' best playmaker beat them. Consequently, there is always a safety, linebacker, ball boy, whoever making sure the cornerback is getting some help in coverage. But don't be fooled. The numbers certainly don't mean that Lamb isn't playing well later in games. Did you see him block two Steelers defenders downfield on Jake Ferguson's big catch-and-run? If Lamb isn't making the plays himself, he's opening up the field for others (see Jalen Tolbert). In the end, I think things will balance out and all will be just fine. He'll get his yards; he'll get his points. And if he's unable to, hopefully his teammates will.

Nick: It really doesn't make sense at all. Even though we're still somewhat early in the season, five games is not a small sample size. And with that, the games have been different. There have been some blowout losses in which the Cowboys needed to throw the ball to get back in the game. In the Ravens loss, the Cowboys made a big comeback and it didn't even involve CeeDee. In some of these last two wins, where controlling the ball is imperative, they still can't get him involved. I'm sure the defenses are changing coverages, but that was happening last year as well and it didn't seem to matter. While you could make the argument that perhaps he's still in his own training-camp mode since he missed camp and possibly he's getting tired in the second half, I'm just not buying that. He was in great shape when he got here and I don't think that's the case. I think it's probably a little more circumstantial right now and he will get on track in the second half sooner than later...(this.)

If they can go 3-3 the next 6 and be 6-5 id be ecstatic.

Including this week, order of importance

NFC East….NY Giants
NFC Playoff contenders….New Orleans, Detroit
Gap
Non NFC games….Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cleveland
I understand and generally this is correct.

But the timing of the Steelers win Id argue was more critical at this time . In the long range it may not factor in as you have stated .

The impact of falling to 2-3 with potential of falling to 2-4 could have caused this team to totally unravel. That’s what makes this win so important at this time. And we might look back as a critical turning point of the season.

Right. It doesn’t necessarily move the needle towards the playoffs but it definitely staves off the potential of a collapse if we lose the next couple games which we’ll be underdogs in as well against arguably much tougher opponents.

I’d like our chances contending for the playoffs at 3-3 or 3-4 than 2-4 or 2-5 and all of the negativity which is attached as such.

2-5 could very well have been the beginning of the end for 2024. Very tough to recover .
