Payne won't an Aaron Donald contract.

His teammate Jonathan Allen got 18M per from the Commodes last year.

An elite but ageing WR would be OK. They need a great route running WR. Hopkins would be awesome, but he is too old with a big contact to make it worth giving up a significant draft pick.
They might revisit trading for either Jeudy or Cooks. Beckham certainly can be in the conversation, but same risk as Gallup. Hopkins is available, but not only the price to acquire him, but you would have to pay both him and Lamb.

Payne is a fine player but paying him based on the 11.5 sack season he just had is a sure fire way to end up a sad man. Go out and find value in 1 year and 2 year deals. Draft and play your rookies. No need for a mega contract type guy. Every year we are too top heavy.

Stephen will pay a WR 20M for 1 year but he will not want to give out a long term contract because he has to give CeeDee a big contract.

If he gives up a pick, then he will not want to take on a big salary.

Maybe that ends up being OBJ.

That probably takes Cooks out of the discussion, unless they could redo his contract. Based on the interest this season, you have to believe Beckham is still a target, depending on price/health. Knowing how Stephen works, getting him at a discount, he would rather do that.

He has been good for 5 years.

He is a 1tech run stopper that played 87% of snaps and just happened to get 11.5 sacks.
- i.e. A 3rd down player.
- Most 1techs play less than 60%.

I'm curious what they would have given for Cooks if Houston had agreed to pay part of the salary.

Brown is a FA, coming off a major injury. Expect him to be a FA signing but not until TC approaches on a 1 or 2 year deal. He will be added depth. I will be ok with this.
Lewis has one more year on his contract. He may be ready for TC or most likely start on PUP, they will not release him unless they are convinced his replacement is on the roster.

Need to bring back Wilson, but what will we want / take to return, will his cost be too much to tag?

Need a stud DT for sure, via FA or a high draft pick.
I think we are good at DE, but they seem to throw draft picks at DE like other teams throw them at QB's. They need to flip that philosophy for now.

Can always use another LB if the right player is there, as well as a CB. After Diggs wimped out out hitting Kittle, I am not as high on him. That will pass come 2023 season, I think.
Not saying replace Diggs, but prepare for when his contract is up.

Parsons needs a clone to bring along, as we see how he gets gassed at times.

Maybe some of the new coaches on defense will help as well.

Not sure Anthony Brown will ever be the same. It was his speed that made him a viable CB. And he likely won't have that same speed and quickness combination next year.

He is more of a 3 tech. I would call Carolina and see if they would trade Brown for our 1st or the Colts to see if they would trade Buckner. I think one of those teams would bite. Have to be more aggressive in getting that hole filled. Hankins is placeholder (JAG) to me. It’s embarrassing that he was probably our best defensive tackle.

Hankins is a JAG? I know they traded him for a 6th, but he was clearly the best DT we had out there against San Fran, and the entire end of the year.

I typically don't like trading draft capital. But I like how we have a good trading relationship with the Raiders.

Go get Daron Payne, resign Hankins, may be try to sign Tomlinson too. Our D line would be pretty set at that point. Go into the draft with the chance of grabbing a CB or BPA. Even if Bijan falls, in my opinion he would help our defense tremendously by taking time off the clock and extending drives.
Have you looked at all the other backs in this draft? There are a few who may be even better than Robinson. Robinson has a higher center of gravity. I know he'll be good. But I'm not sure how that translates to the NFL when I look at some of the other backs in the draft. There are definitely more RBs in this draft than last year's.

One thing I think they may do is draft a TE at 26, or trade up to make a move for someone like Mayer. If they do that, they can let Dalton walk and work with the younger guys we have now. That would save money, and we can still be a team that rolls with 4TEs.

Dominate nose tackle/DT. Hard-nosed-physical MLB even if LVE comes back. Safety and corner. We right at the edge of a dominate defense. IMHO
Not trying to be funny, but we need all the positions on defense.
If I'm GM. I'm drafting heavy on defense. Then getting a dominate receiver-then a few Oline moves. You don't have to spend huge money-Cap Boy Jones! But you have to spend more then what you would on a bag of chips.

I will see you over at draft zone. Not much elite talent this season. I have no idea what the Cowboys will be looking for either. Maybe a quarterback?
It shouldn't be out of the question. They at least want to prepare for life without Dak, and having someone behind him to threaten his role may push him a little harder.

Hankins is starter quality. Bottom of the top 10 type.

I'm terrified of Cooks. He's good, but why does every team that acquires him wants to get rid of him? Something going on there.

A BIG FAT LARGE AMERICAN AT DEFENSIVE TACKLE......

And a CB and LB.
To go along with Hankins or someone else if not going to keep Hankins. Cannot get rid of him and then get someone else and think the problem is fixed, no you need 2 studs inside.

DT- Yes, we need a NT type, but I also think we need more pass rush in the middle as well. Osa flashes on occasion is a good rotation player, but DT’s that consistently collapse the pocket are extremely important and we’ve lacked it for years.

LB- Even if LVE is resigned (I think he should be) I think there is a need for a 2nd Lb. As usual Cowboyszone is getting way ahead of themselves with a young player like Clark…remember last offseason when Cox was going to be a starter? Vet LB’s are usually cheap enough where it shouldn’t be an issue to acquire 1, if Stephen can open up his dusty wallet in FA for once.

S- I’d like to see Wilson resigned, he’s a very solid SS. But 1 thing that could really take the D to the next level is a stud FS. Hooker is fine and doesn’t hurt the D by any means, but just isn’t a difference making playmaker. Obviously easier said than done to acquire a stud FS, but if the opportunity is there I’d love to see them take a shot at upgrading the position.

DE- Always need depth here. Keep drafting young athletic rushers

CB- Lewis and Brown are probably gone but Bland and Mukuamu stepped up enough that it turned CB into a pressing need to just a need for 1 more solid player. I definitely see us drafting a CB in the 1st or 2nd to compete for a starting job.
DT - Hankins is a FA (According to Sportstrac), Galimore is a big 3T, & Bohanna has not been what DQ thought he was.
LB - we have LVE replacement already on the team we just need to see them play We need depth so FA or Late Draft Picks
CB - we have Huge holes here with Brown a FA and Lewis coming back off the injury.
S - we are fine here.

So in the draft I'd say we have 2 major needs DT and CB, but we also have Needs at RB and WR on offense. so our top 4 picks need to be on 1 of these 4 and anyone of them is a top need to BPA.

Robinson had no o line and made a lot of those runs on his own. His cuts are ridiculous, but I don't want a running back in the first.
