I agree, that is exactly my point. I dont see him as a long term solution as a backup QB so why waste a roster spot on him?

he's 28 right now, only a year older than golden boy, backup John Beck, who didn't look good in Miami either

look at Brad Johnson, he's 39

we're looking at 9/10 years w/ Bollinger as a backup, if we choose to stay w/ him that long, and can always draft a guy if we want to trade him for a higher pick, like what Hostile wants to do

Guys, I really don't like this. I've been super annoyed at all the panic button pressing on receiver. I think this is a more serious conversation than receiver though. However, this is not panic either since we are talking backup.

My thoughts... I just don't like where we are here. I, of course, want maybe Peyton Manning at two and Brady at three. I realize thats insane. However, I feel like I do want to have someone that could have a spark when they take over.

I wished we had someone in camp who could have fought with Johnson for the spot. This didnt happen. I don't believe we have any option but Brad this year at number two. I don't like the way he has looked (even in game 3) But I will just hope he is the journeyman bus driver the team believes he is. I just don't hold out hopes that he will be better than Garrat was for Troy. I think he is a bit below because of his floating passes.

For number three this year, I was hoping for someone who could be a solid number two for three to five years. I was hoping for a Matt Moore type situation. Young guy. Raw but a lot of skills. Dumped by some team that was doing something short sighted or ignored in his previous outing because he had a bad line.

Sims is not this person in my mind. I just felt he was an overrated loser at Texas. I remember praying that Major would be put in. I just dont think he has 'it'. And I would rather not waste any grooming opportunity on him.

I havent seen much of Bollinger but he didn't look good to me. No spark. Maybe, I am missing something that Wilson and others see. But I am left cold.

I was excited about Beck. I thought that was the type of situtaion that could be very good. I am smarting over losing him.

What I wish we would do at this point is look around and see if anyone stuffed a promising young QB on their practice squad and grab whoever that is. In the absence of that, I would like to talk to Culpepper about backup duties. Have him sign a two-three year deal. It doesn't sound like he wants a backup role. But maybe a super bowl contender might make him change his mind. I think Tony is pretty secure that we arent planning to replace him and he might not get jumpy about a move like that.

sounds like the offensive staff, or garret at least would rather have bollinger, I dont think money has anything to do with it.

I stand corrected. Yet again!!!

Money is an issue with simms. I didnt think he would be in that frame of mind, but oh well.

What a revolting turn of events at 3rd QB.

Let's just go with 2 like last year and save the roster spot.

Got your back.

If Chris Simms is looking for the best pay check instead of the best learning situation a quarterback could fall into, so be it.

Any back-up who signs on with us gets to find out what makes Tony Romo tick and see firsthand his methodical approach to the game. He receives coaching from Jason Garrett and Wade Wilson in a QB friendly system with a star on the side of his helmet.

I kind of agree with you, Hostile. I think getting another WR should be first so that Witten, Owens don't have to play so many snaps.

I totally agree Hostile and Pick6. Priority #1 in my book!

Personally I like the way Bartel played that last game. He was poised and looked comfortable back there. That had to give him a lot of confidence which is showing. And the coaches had to see it, the confidence, as well. But I don't want to wear my welcome out with Bartel. One game doesn't mean he will be another quality QB for the Boys. His release is slow.

I dont see how he is any worse as a 3rd option than anyone else out there, including Simms.

In regards to him, Simms reportedly wants too much money and a chance to start...niether of those (especialyl starting) is ever an option here unless Romo is injured.

Bollinger kinda looks like a Jason Garrett maybe even Brad Johnson type backup...he will never be a regular starter again, but as a #2 guy (somewhere down the road) he could be dependable and not break the bank. I looked at his career numbers, he completes a decent % of his passes (66.6% and 72.2% the last two yrs, albeit with under 100 total attempts)...the one yr where he did start a number of games (2005 with the Jets) he threw only 6 ints, and 4 of those came in one early start vs Carolina...he's only thrown 2 picks the last two yrs total...so they may have looked at him and see that he takes good care of the football, and thats what you want a backup to do more than anything else.

I trust Garrett...if he likes the guy as a backup #2/#3 guy, then it works for me.

Listen, this isnt anywhere NEAR as complicated or as big of a deal as its being made out to be. Tony Romo is our starter, will be for years and years to come. Brad Johnson is our backup and Brooks Bollinger will be our third guy in training to take Brads job next season after he retires. Next season I believe we draft a young gun, not real high, but not real low either. Probably around the 3rd or 4th round. He comes in and is groomed over the cource of years much as Romo was. Oh, and by having Bollinger on the squad THIS YEAR it will give the staff plenty of opportunity to see if he has what it takes to be the 2 man next year. He does or doesnt, simple as that. But either way the staff will KNOW. If he doesnt, another number 2 man will be signed to backup Romo. In the end this is much adeu about NOTHING.....

on a positive note.....at least we didn't go after David Sacked Carr or Joey Interceptington.....and at least we didn't look at Ricky Ray or Ricky Santos.

I was looking at an article in a Miami newspaper. They seem to think Beck is still going to get traded at some point.

I will hold out hope until then.

Whats going on here is fairly simple. Chris Simms is a "SOMEWHAT'" recognizable name, Brooks Bollinger isnt. Chris isnt phil, heck Chris isnt even very good. Wasnt even all that good at Texas. Good kid, tries hard, been thru a rough time with injuries. STILL doesnt mean he is any good though. Fact is......If Chris had a name like Jones or Johnson, any other name besides Simms, and hadnt played his college ball at Texas, we probably wouldnt even be having this conversation.....:banghead:

Really? Because I don't care where he played college ball. I guess I would have shut up if he played at UTEP?

Don't bet your buns on it fellas.

he just isnt, and never has been very good Hos...

he was totally outplayed in college by Major Applewhite even though he was given every chance to be the guy...he's been nothing but mediocre in the pro's

I wouldnt mind him for the league minimum, but I wont lose any sleep over not getting him because he simply isnt very good

Pretty sure Beck is on the smallish side. Qb'd at BYU. Too much of a choir boy for my taste. Think he would fit on THIS team like oil and water. Old for a second year guy due to the fact that he went on a mission for the Mormon church. I dunno what all the hubub is about him. IMO he looks like another ragarmed system QB put out by BYU.
