The only special running back in the NFL is Adrian Peterson. There are tons of really good ones.

I would never draft a running back in the first round unless the guy is like AP.

Murray was a third rounder. Many of the best backs these days are later round picks.

lol ok

I feel confident Murray will be back in Dallas for no more than 5 million per year, not because he doesn't deserve more, but because I don't believe anyone else in the NFL will want to give Franchise money to a guy who never breaks long TD runs, had an issue with fumbling, and just had his wheels run off the previous season. Because Murray did what he did, played a huge role in our team toughness and confidence, and IS a part of continuity for this season, I believe he is more valuable to Dallas than to any other team in the NFL.

If Murray had just had his recent season, along with his history, for another team with a great OL, would anyone here really want Dallas to offer him more than 5 million? We would be hearing complaints about him running to contact, being used up, not being a breakaway runner. We would be hearing that he's very good behind that OL, but there would be lots of questions about giving him 5 million/year and complete outrage were we to give him 7-8 million per year in FA.

A big part of me wants to see the Cowboys go big time, like they did with Emmitt Smith. I would love Melvin Gordon!!!

I too feel that the team should pursue Mark Ingram and use resources (draft picks) on finishing the oline and dline in the draft.

I just have a bad feeling about Melvin Gordon. Ron Dayne comes to mind for some reason. Plus good running backs can be selected in later rounds.

I could see that. There is the Saban thing and the fact that Ingram was a draft target and seems to be better in a zone scheme.

I do not think he will be a fat bust like Dayne, but I understand the idea he could be oversold. The Wisconsin backs have been far less than advertised for a while, although I think Gordon can break the trend. I would take Gurley if faced with the two early. If not, I wait on another back like Cobb, Allen or Johnson later on.

Give me Duke Johnson in the second round. That dude is a player.

I can't be on board with Rb in round one, maybe if Gurley was healthy, but only because he might be the most talented player in the draft. Gordon is not a physical enough runner for my liking.

Todd McShay says Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon

If there is no comparable DL available, Gordon would not be a bad pick. Matter of fact, this would be the splash pick Jerry has been wanting for some time now.

Imma edit here after i read that Gordon only caught 4 passes!!! Ummm... not so sure anymore. If there isn't a REALLY STUD DL available, trade down, gain picks and pick up Jay Ajayi or Duke Johnson later.

I like him as a fit. That is important, I think a lot of analysis does not look at scheme fit, just how "productive" the back was. Johnson would be a nice fit in a zone scheme like ours.

That same logic caused us to pass on Moss when we already had a problem child in Irvin. Dez was labeled a problem child and has also panned out. We have the infrastructure to handle cases like Beckham, Bryant, Moss and Irvin. We're not cleveland, which has multiple player issues and no leadership to handle such players. If we take care of business before the draft, I'd take him in a heartbeat. He wouldn't be needed immediately with Williams developing, but can still be a game changer by simply throwing it up in single coverage.

I don't think it's fair to compare him to Moss though, because Moss put up ridiculous numbers at Marshall. DBG's number's aren't nearly as great, they are pretty pedestrian actually. If I'm going to take a kid with all his red flags in the first 2 rounds, he better have Moss-like ability and the numbers just aren't there. Not saying DBG won't succeed at the next level, but with his past and average production, he's too much of a risk imo.

Yea, I like him too but he may need to split time with another back which is fine with me. He's a fiery little guy too and an emotional leader. I recall on more than one instance him getting on his teammates during a game to get them going.

I really don't know who all these RBs that can get 30 carries and have the HR speed are. APeterson might be the only one.

McCoy and JCharles can take it to the house, but can't handle all the inside stuff.
Forte and Lynch are bangers but not speed guys. Murray fits in with them. All are great in the passing game.

Two back rotation should always be your goal, in my opinion. I hear you though. I like Murray and hope he stays, but not at the cost of the forward progress we're making. Z Martin had the hugest impact on this offense than I believe most are aware of. He made everyone have a career year just by solidifying the foundation of the offense. A good OL can make a scrub look good. Ask Arizona.

I'm on record saying Odighizuwa is the pick. If not him I'm still sure we go DL.

Those advocating at RB at 27 should prepare for disappointment because that ain't happening.
