The woman who organized an awareness campaign that came under fire for featuring two airmen breastfeeding while in uniform has been fired from her civilian job as an X-ray technician, her lawyer tells Yahoo! Shine.

Crystal Scott, an Army veteran, military spouse, and the program director of the Mom2Mom breastfeeding awareness group at Fairchild Air Force Base, was terminated by Schryver Medical, a provider of X-rays, EKGs, ultrasounds, and other medical digital imaging services, on June 1.

"She was fired due to her passion about the Mom2Mom breastfeeding campaign and speaking out on gender equality and women's rights," her lawyer, Patricia (Pat) K. Buchanan, told Yahoo! Shine in an interview on Friday.

"This kind of took us by surprise," Schryver Medical's president, Jay Schryver, told Yahoo! Shine on the phone on Friday. He issued a formal statement soon after.

"Crystal Scott was terminated by the company on June 1st for various legitimate employment-related reasons," he wrote in the statement. "Amongst other things, on the day prior to her termination, Ms. Scott had clocked in to the company’s timekeeping system and had been assigned time-sensitive tasks that were wholly ignored. Thereafter, Ms. Scott ignored the company’s repeated attempts to contact her to inquire as to her whereabouts and status of her job assignments. When the company finally did get a hold of Ms. Scott, she informed them that she was sick and would not be working. Based on company records – including GPS data from a company van that had been assigned to her – Ms. Scott was actually at a local media outlet conducting personal business, on company time, using company equipment as transportation."

Oh I'd love love love to hear how folks on the board react to the "controversial" pictures.

If she did what the boss claims, she should be fired. Sounds like they have proof, too.

The only thing in the picture that was controversial is the use of the military uniform. It cannot be used to make a statement like that.

The relevant parts are bolded, but the whole paragraph is worth reading.

I like boobies, and that is all I have to add to this discussion.

Another point on which we agree. 2012 must really be the end of days!

I thought the left white one bore a strong resemblance to the right white one, on the gal on the left.

You decide what I meant by "one."

and I'm sure they fired everyone else who did personal business on company time

I am no breastfeeding zealot that is for sure, formula is fine, but she was fired for breastfeeding, not for conducting personal business on company time.

Funny how you know the details about something that you do not know the details about :D

What if instead of breastfeeding, she was promoting prayer? :) It would be fun just to watch the inner turmoil you would face trying to pick a side with that one :D

Yeah and I am sure you would support the employer firing someone for praying.

You may have crossed a line there. Be interesting to see what comes your way now.

Um the owner of the site brought up the issue of prayer, not me.

I missed it. My bad for speaking out of line.

Edit: I see Reality did bring it up -- quoted in your reply -- as you said. I read it as if he's saying you might consider supporting prayer at work, or at least support an employee's right to pray, perhaps not finding support of prayer a fireable offense so readily as you do breastfeeding.
