Woman Behind Controversial Military Breastfeeding Photo is Fired from Her Job

How many times do I have to say it? The use of the uniform in those pictures is the problem. Breastfeeding is a good thing and I have no problem seeing it done in public. In uniform to make a statement is a different matter.

why though? how is it disrespecting the uni?

Is that statement that women who serve in the army breastfeed?

Seems like that is just showing that women from all walks of life breastfeed.

How is doing it in uniform a statement of anything?

I've told you this already, go back and read my comments.

Dude? In what way is breastfeeding controversial? Even in public.

We don't make the rules on what is controversial and what isn't.

If breastfeeding wasn't a hot topic, this picture doesn't exist and neither does the one that was plastered on the front of Time magazine a little while back.

Just because you either aren't aware of what the current irrational discourse may be doesn't mean that it isn't out there.

It was explained already to you. You can't wear the military uniform in a picture campaigning for anything. It's not about what they are campaigning about.

Irrational discourse it is.

Perhaps if she was shown using a breast pump it wouldn't be controversial as federal law requires that she get break time to do so.

Catch y'all after my breast feeding support circle.

I'm not sure it's about disrespect or not.....it's about rules.

They have them. You don't break them.

I once saw a guy in this late 30s or so, in full uniform, approach some young kid who had a camouflage hat on.

He asked him if he was in the service and the kid replied that he wasn't.

The man told him, "Good. I was about to have your *** for mixing civilian and military".

It's pretty simple in life, in general. In the military it's even more simple than that.

Rules are rules. You don't break them.

The picture lends military support to the pro-breastfeeding cause and it is not up to an individual to give that support. If it was OK'ed through the PR system it is okay but I haven't seen anything to suggest that it is.

some of those rules look pretty stupid though, like no affectionate hand holding, no talking and walking on a phone, no eating and walking

do those rules serve a purpose or are they just about control?

that guy you referred to yapping at the young guy, was that not just a power trip?

Are you really this dense?

On the military uniform issue, I tried for awhile to think of a example that people would finally understand why they have that rule and finally thought of one that wouldn't be controversial between two sides. ;)

Example: Lets say the KKK decided to promote their "cause" and had pictures of military members in uniform in a clan rally. That is something the military would obviously not want to be represented with in any way. So that is why they would have a blanket rule like that. There are also plenty of other examples that could go either way politically, this just seem to be the most obvious that everyone would agree would be a poor decision to allow.

It's obvious you've never been in the military and you sound very dense. I'm not going to waste my time educate you why military has certain rules and regulation because you simply wouldn't understand regardless how I dumb it down for you.

If she did what the boss claims, she should be fired. Sounds like they have proof, too.

Yup... sounds like she got so intent on making a point that she willfully neglected her professional duties...

I have no problem with what she did, but the way she did it, she deserved to lose her job...

Don't even understand why breastfeeding in public is an issue.

Don't care either way about it.

Just wish people would mind their own business and quit turning mundane things into hot topics of public discussion.

Also wish some of those on the other side of the coin wouldn't make an effort to turn their mundane act into a three ring circus. Handle your business as though you want to keep it your business.

Stupid topic all around.

I've seen maybe one mother doing it in the last however many years. Seriously, other than last week when I saw a mom doing it I cannot recall the last time I saw it happening.

Oops. Make that post 59.: :)

The specific topic may have drifted but a couple of boobs remain the center of attention.
