We're now taking advice from Woody Paige and Colin Cowherd?

they probably have a better track record than most of coaches over the past year

Does everyone realize the Shanahan won only 1 playoff game from 1999 to the time he was fired? 1 playoff win in 10 years. In that same time frame, Denver only one the division once and had three first round losses as a wild card team. In the past 10 years, he had 6 seasons below 10 wins and 4 at .500 or worse.

He won two Super Bowls because he had one of the best QBs of all time, one of the best TEs of all time and two pro bowl WRs, all of whom were there before Shanahan came into town.

Shanahan is a good coach, there's no doubt about that, but he's not the savior that people think he'd be.

not to mention a very very very good RB in TD...

I don't know why more people aren't on the Mike Holmgren bandwagon. I feel he fits this team much better than any of the other options out there.

Just trying to avoid pessimistic people who contribute absolutely nothing to threads. I understand that opinions about Paige as a sportswriter/analyst can go either way, but this is a Dallas Cowboys forum...not a Woody Paige forum. I'm here to discuss what he said. Not what you think of him. It's just popular for some people on here to have their voice heard even when it's for absolutely no reason. Those are the posts I was trying to avoid...and it has been successful thus far.

Skip Shanahan and go with Gruden, but not until the end of the season. 2-2 isn't the end all and a coaching change now would destroy the team. Gruden has the fire that Dallas needs, and the offense mind that they are lacking. He's from a football family with a dad who was an assistant at Notre Dame. He has the coaching pedigree with stops at San Francisco, Green Bay as a WR coach, Philly as O-coordinator, Raiders as a head coach, and Tampa as a head coach. While it's a given that he won the Super Bowl with Dungy's team, what he did at Oakland was fantastic.

While I doubt he'd take a demotion, Wade Phillips staying on as D-coordinator and Gruden coming in as head coach at the end of the season would be my second choice behind Wade and Garrett winning the next 12 games.

Why not go with Gruden right now and fire Garrett. Keep Wade on as "assistant head coach" and D coordinator. Hire Gruden under the guise that the offense is just not getting it done and hope that you can convince Wade to stay in a similar fashion to how you convinced Garrett to stay a couple years ago.

How would this NOT immediately jump us back into contender status? Romo has the talent...he just needs the discipline. Garrett is an idiot. I think our offense has the pieces right now. The Colts and Giants are doing more with less.

my problem with this plan is the Gruden playbook vs Garrett's is like speaking English for 3 years and then getting plays through the headset in Japanese.

i want Gruden too. tap into one of these great defenses around to find your DC. wades D sucks so i don't want him around at all. JMO

I think Woody Paige is hilarious.

That being said: NO RE-TREADS.

Cowboys don't need a big name coach. We've been there and done that. We need to find the next Tomlin and I don't know who that is, but feel we need to go in that direction. Someone under the radar that is smart, has a little fire to him and has the respect of the players. We all thought that was Garrett, but his shortcomings are obvious.

That being said...Jerry will go with the big name coach.

On Around the Horn, Paige says to not let this marinate till the end of the year before making a change. Says we need to go out and get Shanahan right now because he has had success with quarterbacks in the past.

I'd like to avoid all the posts saying "Paige is a hack/idiot/moron" if possible. I just wanna see what people think about making a coaching change right now to get this ship on track???

It honestly isnt worth wasting time on.

First, I think Jones has made it blatantly clear he doesnt believe in coaching changes during a season.

Second, nobody decent has ever, to my knowledge came in DURING a season to replace someone else. Shanahan, Holmgren or whomever are going to need the offseason and TC to implement their systems and evaluate the personnel.

Football is not like baseball in terms of switching out "managers", there are too many dynamics involved.

The show is nothing but Hacks, imo. Moriatti is so mad at the Cowboys and Romo it's sickning. He's been harping on Romo for a while now, I don't get it. I've never seen a mediot go after a player as hard as him just because he's playing bad. It's not like Romo started all the media hype about himself, ESPN did. I know they love tearing down after building up, especially Cowboys. Hacks.

Why not wait until Jeff Fisher gets fired? He went 13-3 last year and lost in the first round of the playoffs and now his team is supposedly underachieving at 0-4. Sounds just like what Dallas needs.

I always liked Jeff Fisher. Sometimes a good coach has a bad year. He would be my choice as HC for the Cowboys.

If Jerry did that and we won the Super Bowl, everyone would say what a genius Jerry is...

Gruden, Holmgren, or Cowher would be just fine with me.

Not crazy at all about Shanny...

Just say no to Chucky because he is the best MNF analyst we have had in years. If he becomes our coach who's next? Wilbon on MNF?

So as long as businessman Jerry makes a profit over these 12 games, than GM Jerry could care less how we fare? I suppose that's why he's working so hard to promote the new stadium.

Awesome.
